| This is an ariel view of the eastern tip of the island. No, this is NOT a picture I took myself. Just thought I'd provide you with another view of Halawa Valley. This panoramic photo was done in 4 shots. In the 3rd frame is where you see Halawa Valley & its bay. The long ridge immediately to the left of the valley near the coast is Alanuipuhipaka Ridge, with Honokoi Gulch on its left. In the 2nd frame on the higher portion near the coast is Kalanikaula. There is a grove of kukui or candlenut trees (Aleurites moluccana). It is here where the famous prophet, Lanikaula (16th century) was laid to rest. Further inland from this area is Pu`u o Hoku (Hill of Stars). |
