Limestone Caves in Ipoh

The State of Perak just north of Kuala Lumpur boasts of numerous karst (or limestone) formations which beauty is as yet undiscovered. The spectacular landscapes have even been compared to those in Quilin, a very famous Chinese city famous for hundreds of years for its beauty which is often captured in natural landscape Chinese paintings. The limestone hills, especially those around the city of Ipoh, have attracted visitors from afar. Several house temples with ornate decorations and wall paintings. You can visit Sam Poh Caves and Perak Caves (both in Ipoh) to sample them. Yet, there are even more beautiful caves and landscape waiting to be enjoyed. Kek Lok Tong boasts of a very lovely garden as well as great formations of stalactites and stalagmites. Gua Tempurung, located 15 minutes from Ipoh, beckons the adventurous in caving. It is set to be a very popular tourist destination in the near future as the State Government has already leased the site to a private firm to be developed. Another set of hills which are sure to charm with their beauty are the Dragon Head Hills. |
