Stoplight Parrotfish

The There are 14 species of Parrotfish in the waters around the United States. This is a Stoplight Parrotfish, they can grow to a length of 4feet. Their teeth are white and form beak like plates, the lower plate is hidden by the upper when the mouth is closed. Their habitat is coral reefs from Maryland to Rio De Janerio. They use the teeth (both upper and lower) to grind algae along with soft coral. Divers hear a grinding sound when the Parrotfish are near by.


Pipefish

Pipefish are in the same family as the seahorse. They have a small, toothless mouth at the end of a tubular snout.The male has a brood pouch like the male seahorse and their young are reared there. They are usually found in saw grass beads in shallow waters (both salt and fresh) From Florida to the Gulf of Mexico.
