A community of eighty monks live in this monastery founded in 1025 to commemorate a vision of the Virgin on the mountain. Napoleon's troops sacked the place in 1811, and after a period of abandonment it was rebuild from 1858.
Although it's just a short train ride from downtown Barcelona... the trip up the mountain involves one cable car, two funiculars, and/or a lot of steps up the mountain.Gondola from the Train Station up to Sant Jeroni.
