Johnson
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard on the Cathay Pacific flight CX 419, from Seoul to Hong Kong. Our flying time is approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes. The estimated time of arrival is 8:45pm local Hong Kong time. The local weather is..." I looked out of the window while listening to this inflight annoucement. Yes, I was about to deaprt Seoul. Visiting Seoul was my dream. My dream came true. Everyday was so busy during my stay in Seoul. My feet and body were relaxing in the flight. All of a suddenly, I felt loneliness was filling my heart. No one was sitting next to me. Shall I talk to the passenger next to the vacant seat? No way, I am not used to this.
The flight took off safely and we reached above the dusty air soon. Everything inside or outside was calm, but my heart was not. My emotion seemed getting worse. The feelings were like falling into deep hole after jumping to a peak. I missed my time in Korean, my Korean host and everything I did in Seoul.
The audio system was playing a sad song while I was watching at some little lights in the sea. A voice spoke from my right, "Sir, would you like something to eat? We have beef and chicken." This started out first conversation. He is a very polite and gentle person. He replied me "you're welcome" with a polite smile whenever I said "thank you." Well, at that moment, I found he was more sincere than other attendants. So, I came up an idea of nominating him as the "best crew of the month." But I was too shy to ask his name in front of other passengers. The best way was to ask when leaving the flight. After flight, I did not know where he went. Therefore, I took the form with me to see if I could meet him somewhere in the airport. I really met him in the airport express train. I asked his name, Johnson Yap, and we started talking. I knew he was from Malaysia in our chat. Of course, I picked this chance to ask him about the coumtry. We talked nonstop but not for long. We exchanged email and numbers before the trip finished.
We met on the next day for a dim sum tea. He brought his engaged wife, Mariko, to the restaurant. We talked more about ourselves this time. We ate some dim sum and left for a walk in the Maritime Square. The Old Town was great. Then, we said bye as we got something else to do. That evening was fun. My friend could not have dinner with me and so I went back to Maritime Square for shopping. I met them again! They invited me to their place for dinner. Mariko cooked really good food. It was my first time of having dinner in a Japanese's home. We talked until 11pm when I had to leave for the last train to Hong Kong station.
Couple of days later, I went back from Singapore. Guess what? I saw Johnson in Maritime Square. We a\tually took the same train from the airport. Then. we went to KFC for Zinger Burger. But there was not any in Hong Kong's KFC. We went to McDonald's instead. About two weeks later, I went back to Vancouver. We still kept in touch with email.
Last year's and this year's summer, we met in Hong Kong. Last year, he showed me the Cathay Pacific City and its boutique. He brought me to have Indian food in Chungking Mansion. He taught me to use my right hand to eat. It was fun. But, I was a bit embarassed at the beginning!
