Terry

Let me think how I met Terry. Humm.... I guess I have known him for 7 years.

One day my history teacher asked me to be a committee member of school's history club. I said yes without any hestitation because such chance was not avaiable to grade 10 students often. Also, I believed that invitation stemmed from the teacher's perception that I was a good student (obviously I was not!).

I attended the first meeting in a hot afternoon. Everyone seemed "nice" because most of them were in grade 12. They might think they were my big brothers and might hide their real characters for an hour. We began by introducing ourselves. I heard, "My name is Leung Tze Hin, from F.6A. I am the secretary of the club" That was all I knew about Terry in the meeting. I can't remember exactly when I talked to him next.

We actually got closer on the day of a club's activity. We went to a mosque in next to Kowloon. The trip was interesting. But, we talked to each other whenever the tour moved from one place to another. hehee.. I did my strength again: talking some teachers' gossips. He was away from school for about 6 months last year (as a leave for all HKCEE candidates to prepare for the exam.). So, he missed a lot of "great gossips." He seemed enjoy those awful school politics much.

Joint School Club's meeting held in my school. Terry stood in the front door and was supposed to do some receptionist job. I walked by. He called me stop and asked me to stay for a while because he was very bored there. Again, it was gossips and jokes time. I told him that I had the tape in which a former Miss Hong Kong was saying foul languages. He was very curious, and gave me him number. So, I called and played it to him. Then, our friendship developed in the same way as Bong and Derek: talking on phone.

I asked him for ice skating in summer break. I did not know skating (even now) and Terry claimed he knew it well. In fact, he skated like a normal people. We went to the ice skating ring one morning as there were not many people. I expected he would be with me and help me out. This only held for the first few minutes because I skated like "walking"! All I could to was to figure out the best way for me to go forward while keeping balance. I fell on the ice three times in two hours. Some people said it was not too bad for a first time skater. But, I swear I won't go skating anymore! After the skate, we walked to the upper floor of the mall to buy textbook. He laughed at me because I was not like walking but skating on the ground! Then, we became closer friends. I started calling him "kai yeah" which means god father in cantonese. Why father and son but not brothers? Because god brother, "kai dike", does not sound good in Cantonese.

Things went pretty well for both of us. He went to university and I was promoted to grade 12 in the following year. We met again in the graduation ceremony. But the feeling was different as I would leave for Canada in few weeks. Before leaving, he gave me a small CD and a card written, "I was innocent few years ago because I gave my number to a stranger. He was a bit annoying. The stranger is leaving now. But, I don't feel like to want him to leave. Take every chance to expose yourself to various things..." I read this on the bus going home. My eyes turned red again.

Although we do not talk or icq often, we manage to keep the relationship. We went out every time I went to Hong Kong.
