THE ZAMBEZI RIVER
Victoria Falls
Please remember graphics may take a few minutes to download.
Our 10 a.m. off-season Zambezi River cruise  featured only four passengers and our guide, Danny, plus tinkly gin and tonics while we watched baby crocs go for a swim. We thought of Dr. David Livingstone on the same journey. Upon seeing the Falls from the river, he wrote in his journal that such a lovely sight "must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight."  Today, you can  pay "The Flight of Angels" to take you on a short aerial tour over the Falls.

Hippos
Keith watches herons relaxing on the Zimbabwe side of the river. The Zambezi forms the northern boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Hippos are a common site on the Zambezi. In fact they would make a good logo for a local Zim lager, called Zambezi beer.
Croc
Croc
A very young crocodile lounges, almost invisible,
in the branches of a mopane tree.
This young croc prefers a dip in the river.

A highlight of the cruise was spotting a large herd
of elephants bathing in the river.

The herd included several baby elephants. Above, three adolescent elephants enjoy
a bath and a game in the water.
