Bukit Timah Nature Reserve ... The View From Upper Bukit Timah Road

Covering about 164 hectares, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve has been set aside to preserve Singapore's primary rainforest since 1883. As Singapore is a small island with limited land space, most of its land is being used for commercial and residential development. Hence, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve remains one of the last reserve to house the flora and fauna found in Singapore. At the summit of the Reserve, is also Singapore's highest hill of 164m.

The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is located in the west of Singapore at the end of Hindhede Drive, and can be reached via the Upper Bukit Timah Road.

Preferably, one of the best times to visit the Reserve would be around 8 in the morning. This is before the morning sun disperses the mist from the previous night. The air would be fresh and cooling for a morning climb up the hill.

The Visitor Centre (below) is located at the foot of the Reserve, and has some historical information, and exhibits on the Reserve's fauna and flora. Do remember to collect a map of the Reserve from the Ranger's counter before you begin your climb. This would be extremely useful if you decide to detour from the main tarred road to explore the unbeaten paths and steps within the Reserve.

One of the most popular staired path to the top of the Reserve would be the Summit Path (Right). The climb is steep (as seen in the picture), but it is a shortcut from the longer winding tarred road.
