Coral Bay & Ningaloo Reef

Fourth Day of the North Trip in Western Australia
3rd July 1996

I woke up again at about 6.30am.
Helped served breakfast and carried the things to the bus: Tents, food, snorkelling gear, etc.
By 9.08am, everyone was on board the bus, and we set off to Coral Bay.

The bus made a stop by the road at about 12.20pm.
Out along each side of the road were gigantic ant hills. They were made of reddish brown earth, with irregular lumps. Some were as tall as me.

The entire area was awesome, as in awful awesome! It reminded me of those little alien pods where their young would emerged. Anyway, I managed get a picture of it.

We arrived at Coral Bay at about 1 plus. Unloaded and pitched up our big green tents in a circle, and went around to help the rest.

After the tents, we had cheese salad bread roll and orange cordial for lunch. Somehow they taste better when I am hungry.

I rested about an hour, and then went to change.
Headed down to the beach, and went snorkelling.

It was beautiful. I saw swarm of fishes, big and small, all around me and felt really exhilarated. I guess I know why the Little Mermaid was so happy in her kingdom.

I had a slight problem with the mask, probably the wrong size, and had to drain out the water from time to time.

The weather then was not very cold. We played a little bit of frisbee, and sat to enjoy the beach scene.

Coral Bay has got some sandhills. I had to take off my sandals to climb to the top. But it was worth it. The view was great.

At about 5.30pm, everyone sat by the beach to appreciate the sunset.
