The Bedouins
The Bedouins

The Bedouins are wondering tribes who are originated from the Saudi Arabia peninsula. They are living in tents and moving from one temporary location to another according to weather and food conditions. Their main income is from growing sheep, goats and camels. In the Turkish era, they were actively participating in the trade of commodities in the region. Although they live in the open field, they managed, under the rule of Israel, to establish remarkable business enterprises and some of them considered to be milliners.

In the last 20 years, the government of Israel is trying to settle the Bedouins in permanent towns like RAHAT, TEL-SHEVA, ARO’ER, SEGEV- SHALOM and others. Most of the Bedouins new town are around Beer Sheva. They receive loans for housing and the government invest in infrastructure. Not all of the Bedouins agree to move into permanent new towns and give up their freedom of moving with their herd in the desert.
