The Southern bridge of Beer Sheva

The Turks and the Germans cooperated closed in purpose to stop the British colonial expansion. They have developed the railway system in Israel and connected Damascus to Saudi Arabia Hidjasi railway. In Nahal Sorek, between Jaffa and Jerusalem they have splitted the railway towards Beer Sheva. The work was completed in the end of 1915, and on October 29, 1915 a train with Jamal Pesha and many important Turkish administration people arrived to Beer Sheva on board of the first train. On January 1916, they continued to build the railway towards Sinai desert and the 190 meter long bridge with 20 arches and 40 meter sand filling, with width of 1.05 meter, was completed on August 1916. The work was done by 118 Jewish labors and contractors who worked under harsh conditions and illness. In 1948, the Southern part of the bridge was blown by the Israeli commando unit in purpose to stop the Egiptian army to advance forces and supply to their units in Beer Sheva.
