The following is from a typed note dated Apr 29, 1966 initialed TCB - in the Blegen papers at the Minnesota Historical Society.

"Yesterday I had a conference of an hour or more with Dr. Aslak Liestol, the runologist from Norway. Apropo of Wahlgren, I suggested that his book was marred by many errors on the purely historical side, circumstances of the find, etc.
Dr. Liestol commented that his linguistic sections were equally marred. The book, though its major conclusion was right, was not to be depended on runologically. He went on to say that the speculations about Ohman;s "humor" were merely fantasy."
Blegen of course, oft quoted here, wrote a book critical of the runestone. Dr. Liestol, was also a critic and, wrote several articles opposed to the stone.
