Grand Canyon National Park



The Grand Canyon National Park takes up most of northwest Arizona. The Grand Canyon is divided into two parts. The South rim and the North rim. It is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It is also one of the most popular national parks.

The Grand Canyon covers 500,000 hectares of land. It is 277 miles long and 10 miles wide. It's hills are 1,000 to 1,500 feet high. The distance around the Grand Canyon to the North Rim by road is 214 miles. The trail takes the visitors at least two days because it is 21 miles.

The Colorado River runs through the Grand Canyon. The Park includes steep hills and tall peeks made of rock. The Grand Canyon has countless side canyons, waterfalls, and rapids. The Colorado River forms the Canyon.

The Paleo-Indians were the first people to look at the Grand Canyon followed by the Spaniards. The first explorer to explore the Grand Canyon was Francisco Tomas Garces. The canyon was established in 1919.

The Grand Canyon gets four million tourists per year. Visitors ride rafts or boats on the Colorado River. Some other attractions are horseback riding and hiking. You can also ride mules on the canyon trails.
