The Town Centre

Not much to say about it other than after the pull out of the American businesses when they had finished wringing the area dry and the destruction of the architects and planners of the sixty's and seventy's, the local council are busy killing off the rest by actually charging for parking here now (rather than paying you for coming in!!) and trying to destroy the only decent building completed in that time!!

Still you're here now so may as well look around -

In the old days, one way of getting knighthoods etc was by doing noticable charitable works - common amonst these were building Alms Houses for the Poor - so here are some built by the Chew family I belive.

High Street South (part of Watling Street) with typical UK style buses clogging up the roads.

Same area - typical sort of older town high street view with buildings of all sorts of ages and constructions terraced together. Ho Hum

High Street North - same road just the other side of the cross roads

Saturday and dead - well done the Local Council.

Rear of High Street South, Old one one side and new on the other

West Street - part of Icknield Way, note the traffic trying to get through UG!!

some very old buildings in background

The 'upgraded' main 'new' part of the town centre, sad

Yup - sad

Dunstable Cross - NOTE - Americans don't try this at home - it can be interesting - you may have heard tell of roundabouts - well this is a double one - ie two together.

Nuff said about the criminals of the 60's

Dunstable Medical Centre - a shining example of the best of the British National Health Service (Got to say that 'cos we go there!!)

Wonderful Doctors supported by magically well trained staff.

Ug!!

The only worthwhile building of the era in the Town - Queensway Hall - so the Council are wanting to demolish it for a supermarket - Figures.

An Antiques Market being held inside the Hall.

To finish off a quick stroll through the Market, very ancient so being slowly killed off:-
