A DAY OUT IN

DUNSTABLE

BEDFORDSHIRE

ENGLAND

(POOR YOU - GOT NOWT BETTER TO DO!)

NEITHER HAVE THESE POOR SODS!!

{poor me - even less!!!!!!!!}

>For those not in the know, Dunstable is a small burg to the North of London England

>See My main site for an offbeat wander round that burg

The town has been chartered, the English way of becoming a town since about the 12 century so is getting on a bit.

There are some connections with the past left, but most of the place was destroyed with the march to a new world in the 60's and 70's.

The american company - General Motors had a major Truck factory in the town and near destroyed the place when they and Dodge, who had another pulled out.

The town owes it's existance to the centre being the crossing of the old Icknield Way, an east/west route going back in the mists of time with Watling Street, the later Roman road to Chester built for the pacifying of the Welsh (never happened - still an unruly lot).

For information this site was first done in September 1998 and was the first one I ever did.
I hope to update it soon.
Much has passed, since then the Queensway Hall has gone and the rest of the town left to rot. General Motors has pulled out of the next door town now, as well, closing the Vauxhall Car plant.

Still enough of the rubbish - no doubt there are wonderful local government and tourist board/business developement office approved web pages extolling the virtue of the place, so on with some pictures taken on a wet saturday in January

Yeh - OK so welcome

If you can get in - bear in mind this is SATURDAY

So lets look round:-

If those sad scenes have not sent you on your way, then perhaps a bit of culture may be needed:-

Pubs.htm

If you have not had enough spiritulism in one way, then perhaps another:-

OK so have a look about the area - can be nice when the sun shines - honest!!!

Locality.htm

There is a rather nice, near unknown, gem to the south of Dunstable on the A5 between Redbourne and St. Albans. A real old watermill which has been quietly turned into a visitors centre and is well worth the visit before it gets known about

Now dry your tears from your eyes, I suppose that we could live somewhere else where we would need to be armed every where we go or something, and drop me a line to tell me that someone, somewhere has actually downloaded or at least read this rubbish
