| We started our trip from Piazza Michelangelo. There is one of Michelangelo's Davids at this piazza. David is one of symbols of Florence. So you'll find a lot of them all around the city (even as backround of this page ;-) ).
There is the great view of whole city from Piazza. Right in front of you Dome Cathedral stands (one of the biggest cathedrals in the world). On the left there is Ponte Vechio (Old bridge) - the most original bridge in the city. Under your feet Arno flows.
Florence looks very young despite of the age of buildings and city itself. There are scooters everywhere and young people walking down the streets and sitting on the grass. The Florence as compared with Venice seems to be much less touristic and still has its own life. Venice seems to live by tourism only ;-(. The biggest impression of our visit to Florence was the top of Duomo. You climb to long staircase, go around cupola base and then climb again. When you think this stairs will never finish you're seeing a light and 10 seconds later you're on top of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. |

Florence is famous by its citizens. Michelangelo, Dante Aligieri, Machiavelli, Medici dinasty etc. It's reallyhard to believe that so many geniuses may born and live in the same city.
On each step we met works of Michelangelo and places where Dante lived.
Museum of Florence have the greatest collection of Rafael, Michelangelo, Botichelli etc. There was the biggest queue in Italy to Uffizi. You should wait about an hour to come into museum. Unfortunately we didn't attend Piti gallery. I heard they have collection comparable to Uffizi's one but it's far less crowded. Walking around Florence is very exciting. Every cathedral and church and street has it's own coloring. Maybe I'm a little preconceived but Florence is my favorite city in Italy. |
