STAYING IN SOHO AND THE LOWER EAST SIDE
11 Rivington St (between Chrystie & Bowery) The 38 suites are large and tastefully decorated, and the prices aren't bad either. What's the snag? This isn't exactly Park Avenue, and the 10 least expensive suites share a bath and kitchen. But very few hotels are offered in this area of east SoHo (hence the name). The hotel does have easy access to the likes of the SoHo and Chinatown areas, and most suites have color TV, marble bathtubs, air-conditioning, a gourmet eat-in kitchen, and access to a fitness center nearby.
138 Lafayette St (at Howard St) The only hotel in Chinatown has very little Oriental detail in either the public areas or the 223 guest rooms. Its Hong Kong-style restaurant, Pacifica, is very good. If you must stay in Chinatown, the Holiday Inn is your best bet here.
