| BESOM OR BROOMSTICK The besom is your broom. A broom is used to "sweep away" negative energy in your sacred space. I sweep the area where I will cast my circle, prior to casting it. I don't actually sweep the ground, just the air above the ground. This isn't something you must do, but it's a wonderful way to help you concentrate on being positive and rid the area of negativity. Tradititionally you should sweep east to west, the same path the sun travels CAULDRON The cauldron represents the womb of the goddess. In your cauldron, you can mix herbs, oils, teas, and any brews you might make in your spells or rituals. Your cauldron can be anything- you can even use a pot from your kitchen if you can't buy something especially for this purpose. It doesn't have to be big- it can be as small as a bowl if you want it to. As with other tools, just make sure you consecrate it. Your cauldron should also be heat resistant so that you can heat up your teas or other brews if you need to. My cauldron is a round copper pot that I bought at an antique store. Use your imagination and you will find something suitable for your cauldron. Most likely, your cauldron will only be used occasionally. I don't make brews or teas very often, sometimes just in my Sabbat rituals. ALTAR CLOTH Altar cloths come in all shapes and sizes to fit your altar. You can make them as magickal as you like. They are both made and bought in diffrent colours to represent the Sabbats or to decorate the altar. If you have a special one and don't want to worry about staining it in anyway you can put a clear plastic cloth over it, which you should be able to find at your local craft store. AMULETS Amulets are objects usually hung around the neck of a person or thing for protection, or other magickal intent. They could be made of anything, usually natural objects and could be used also for showing your faith to the God and Goddess. BASKETS Baskets are used for many things. They can be used to store you magickal tools or can be used in rituals. Usually baskets are associated with co-operation, close relationships, harvast and nutrition. BATH SALTS Bath salts are mainly used in a ritual bath (a bath designed to promote relaxation, and 'wash away' negativity before doing a ritual). They can also be used in spells. BEADS Beads can be made from any thing; wood, plastic, glass and are used usually on talismans, medicine bags and are sometimes strung in mobile like possitions to ward of negativity. Beads are also used in dream catchers to represent the negativty. BELL A bell is used in a ritual when calling in the deity or/and the quaters (The elements). At the end of a ritual the bell is rung to let the elements return to their realms. A bell is used quite populary in Feng Shui where its hung on a door to ward off evil. BOLLINE A bolline is a white-handled knife with a curved blade. This is your working knife. It is used to cut a variety of things-string, clay, herbs, candles or whatever while doing a magickal ritual. BOOK OF SHADOWS This is your personal record book. In it you record spells and magickal information including dreams, chants or any other material that has to do with working the craft. BOWLS Bowls are extreamly important, they are used to hold the represents of the two elements water (water) and earth (soil or natural product of the earth). Occasionally they are the main part of a ritual. Usually they represent harvast and nutrition. CHARCOAL Is used to burn powdered herbs. CLAY Is used usually to make an object of something, like a poppet. It can also be used to represent Earth. COMPASS You may laugh but a compass is very important when calling the quaters or when plotting your magick circle. |
