This episode had me guessing throughout the entire thing! It totally rocked!!! Those flashbacks were killer, for a while I thought that Mulder really was the father. -Then the tests came back negative. *Sigh* I knew it was to good to be true. That one guy really creeped me out. That Hassel-what's-his-name? Ick! Mr. Carter, with all do respect, if something happens to the baby, I'm going to definately raise some cane.
Flashbacks: The flashbacks make me wonder why an entire episode wasn't dedicated to them. I mean, I'm not stupid or anything, I know why Carter kept that from us, but that makes me feel so......decieved. Whether or not this is a victory for the Noromos or Shippers, is not my place to call. You decide.
Make up: Since there wasn't any scenes where make-up for monsters is required, I can't say much. -The little puppet alien was cool though.
Reality Check: They did a really good job with making this all seem real. The doctors equipment, the tests that were done, even that ultra-sound looked real. I love looking at certain things to see whether or not they look real or not.
Next Week: LOOKS AWESOME!!!! Mulder is coming back!!! *Does victory dance around room.* I can't wait to see the space ship thing. It looks SO good! Man, 7 days is to long to wait. *sniff*

As I waited with baited breath for “This is Not Happening” to come on, I reflected on
the season to this point and thought of my disgust at what I thought was gross
mistreatment of me as a faithful viewer.Another side of me wanted to be relieved as I felt
hope that this episode would be the bridge to greatness for the balance of this year-was I
disappointed? Read on.............
Overall rating 9-this episode raised the bar for me based on one reason only: Gillian
Anderson's portrayal of Scully, or more specifically 1013's allowance of Gillian
Anderson's portrayal of Scully which I will elaborate on later. I felt every inch of the
MSR pulsate through my bones via Scully tonight-and it made me appreciate what a
special relationship it IS. While I still have many questions as to the specifics of the
alien's agenda. It remains to be seen how Reyes is fleshed out. I thought the overall
pace of the story was riveting, despite my prior knowledge. Episodes like “This is Not
Happening make me proud to be an X-Phile, rather then an ex-Phile,which I was on the
verge of not to long ago.
Relevancy rating 10-One of the if not THE core issue came to a peak as Mulder's
abduction came to a shocking conclusion. Bonus points for the revelation that the search
had been going on all along and "they finally caught a break". Jeremiah Smith returned
and Ritchie so was Bellefleur gang. Was it really so hard to make even a few of the episodes
this year as relevant?
On to the particulars:
Gillian Anderson/Scully - Emmy worthy without a doubt. Her performance made me
appreciate what a fine actress she really is. Until the word "partner" was bandied about, I
had no mental affixiation to that role Mulder has in Scully's life. It's a credit to the show
that Scully was allowed to grieve and hope, pine and flummox over the possible and
eventual "return" of her significant other in every sense of the word. I saw so much pain
in Scully's eyes it's a wonder her heart wasn't torn from her chest. Bravo, Gillian
Anderson.
Robert Patrick/Doggett - understated for the most part, Doggett was shown to be a
man on a very personal mission, and showed an admirable sense of empathy for
Scully.Went into "cop mode" for awhile, and showed a considerable lack of insight as to
the facts in this "case"-but I think he's getting there. I wasn't pissed by Doggett
tonight and that's a good thing.
Annabeth Gish/Monica Reyes - At first I wasn't getting a good vibe about her-she
seemed "flighty”, as the episode wore on, she grew on me a bit. Although I think it's clear
she is being set up as a female Mulder of sorts. An interesting flavor to her character is
her "spiritual notions". If Monica Reyes does become a regular I anticipate a shift in
the Myth Arc from aliens to spiritual. A bold prediction-but I think The X-Files next
season might resemble "Millennium" in tone. All in all a welcome addition-and even
more evidence Mulder and Scully will get a proper send off.
Skinner/Mitch Pileggi - had a little to work with tonight, he was clearly in Scully's
corner and was very supportive, not to mention resolute on the facts of Mulder's
abduction.
Jeremiah Smith/Roy Thinnes-a welcome return for a long lost character. Where was
he anyway? Was this *the* Jeremiah Smith? Whatever the case he was continuing his
humanitarian efforts. A question I have is what exactly is Jeremiah Smith's ultimate role
when it comes to the alien's activity? He doesn't appear to be a "rebel" as one of the
would be colonists-why the differing ideology?
David Duchovny/Mulder - David Duchovny keeps rolling in the big bucks for
minimal (as of *now*) work.Great employment if you can get it! Fact is corpse!Mulder
and Scully have more chemistry then anything among the living on this show as of right
now and DD's full-time return should put a kick start in this show's keister.
The MSR - Not in a LONG time have I felt so positive about the MSR. NO one can
tell me Mulder and Scully's relationship is platonic,or is based merely on a partnership or
even friendship-these two are so much more than that-and it's clear that anyone who
shares such a relationship is truly fortunate. Call them lovers,or any other estimable
bond-I call them soulmates destined for a life together in every sense of a commited
relationship.
The March hiatus - I CAN'T WAIT THIS LONG! Could I have
thumb screws instead? Or how about 24 hours straight of reality based T.V?
In conclusion I haven't felt this good about the show in general or the MSR and it's
future in particular in a LONG time. Chris Carter might have pissed us off in the past, but
I really get the vibe he wants to do right by the show, it's main characters and fans and
give the Mulder and Scully era a proper send off.
