How To Start a Youth Association

What is needed to become an officially recognized Youth Democrats District Association or Democratic Action Group:

At least two weeks prior to the date of your club's founding meeting, notice must be given to Party Headquarters.

You need to set a date, time and place to hold your founding meeting and advertise it as widely as possible. Your local riding association should be able to help you with this. They are great people to have on side from the very beginning!

You need a minimum of 10 members, who live in the riding or go to the high school or post-secondary institution where you are starting the youth club. The membership fee for a youth to join the New Democratic Party is $5.

Your club will need a constitution and a financial statement. Model constitutions and financial statements are provided below for your use.

Your club will need an executive, which can be voted for at your founding meeting.

Upon completion of your founding meeting, send your constitution (signed by the President and Secretary of the club) your financial statement, your list of 10 members and any new membership dues ($3 of the $5 youth membership fee) to headquarters for recognition. Keep copies of all records for your files.

Now your club is officially recognized and among other privileges can send delegates to Party meetings!

For assistance at any stage of starting your club or getting it recognized by Headquarters, feel free to contact us.
