Before the political photo-op, there was the photo-op on the
movie set. Film stars were magnets that drew people from all walks of
life, be it visiting royalty, politicians or other Hollywood royalty.
Douglas and Mary hosted many at their home, Pickfair (notably the King and
Queen of Siam and Lord and Lady Mountbatten). Guests were equally
welcome on the set at the studio. Douglas was equally at home, if not
more so on the set and would readily call it a day once guests arrived that
had to be entertained. He was the boss and who could argue with him?
No matter who the guests might be, the shooting on the picture may have
stopped for the day, but the cameras kept right on grinding!
