Laboratory My Interest

Music

"Life cannot just fill up with Chemistry....... ", my God-father said

Yes, life cannot just fill up with your job, no matter how deep you enjoy it.  Besides chemistry, I have a lot of interests.......

Music, yes, it is music!  Thanks to my piano-teacher, Mrs. Annie Leung.  Actually she opened the door of classical music to me.  When I was eight, she brought me my first cassette, "Peer Gynt Suite" by E. Grieg (1843-1907, Norwegian).  The music was played by Berliner Philharmonics under the baton of late Herbert von Karajan.

Among all of the composers, Gustav Mahler (1860-1911, Jews) is my favorite of the favorite!  Who is Gustav Mahler? Go to "Music" and you will know more about him.

Other than Mahler, A. Bruckner, C. NielsenD. Shostakovich, John Cage (listen) .... and some contemporary composers are also my favorite.....

Besides music, I also enjoy various kind of fine arts, like painting (my favorite painter is Joan Miro, Spanish, 1893-1983; Paul Cezanne, French, 1839-1906; Claude Monet, French, 1840-1926); movie (favorite director: Woody Allen, David Lynch, Ka-Wai Wong... etc., life-long favorite: My Life as A Dog;  recent favorite: MulHolland Drive, Waking Life, The Deep End, The Man Who wasn't There) and books (especially poetry, link to SF Gate book review for latest book review).
