![]() The Robinhood Syndrom           Let's clear the air with a simple fact: nothing is free! If something is given to you, you can be sure that somewhere along the line, someone had to pay for it, even if it's not you. This fact holds true with many government programs that people usually find helpful. Two of the more well-known programs are Social Security and Welfare.          First of all, Social Security bases its existence on the fact that you're no good after the age of 65. This assumes that we're all the same, therefore, we must ALL be useless after the age of 65. But we're not the same, we are individuals. Some of us may already be useless in high school, but I'm not pointing any fingers.          Secondly, Social Security assumes that we have no idea how to handle our money. It's like your parents withholding your allowance because you would go spend it on candy. The government is treating us like children! We would have much more money for retirement if we could simply keep our Social Security payments and put them in a savings account.           Now let's talk about welfare. I'm going to put this in the simplest terms I know. Welfare is stealing. The government takes your money and gives it to those who didn't work for |
it. If you refuse to give them this money, they'll arrest you. This is what the educated call "legal plunder."
No country that has ever plundered it's citizens has survived. Now what would happen if we were allowed to keep our money? Most people assume we would be selfish enough to keep it for ourselves and that is our right if we choose to do so. But Michael Jordan has been allowed to keep a very large portion of money, and because of this, he has donated to numerous deserving charities.           Without welfare, people who are undeserving would probably work, and that means even more money for everybody. Social Security and welfare are not handouts, they're restrictions on our freedom. Both programs are found in a type of government called socialism, and are used by such governments to make individuals, you and me, dependent upon the government.           When the government takes our property, with or without our consent, and makes us dependent upon them, what are we? We are slaves. We are prisoners to the congress, the supreme court, and good old Bill Clinton. Think about everytime we pay a tax, when our property is no longer private and our lives are only fuel for the socialist machine, something dear has been lost. Are we the "land of the free" or the home of the quiet slave? |
