Mulberries may not be native, but arrived in England as feedstock for silkworms, some keen gardening types are attempting to cultivate them for human consumption.  Bullaces (something akin to damson) damsons and medlars are probably too sour for modern tastes.  Even in Victorian times where where mainly used in jams and country wines where the sourness was overcome with large quantities of sugar.
