Mrs. Beeton

Most recipes are about ratios and the amount you can eat, e.g. twice as many potatoes as carrots and anyone cooking regularly will know how much to buy.  However, most recipes specify 2 lb of potatoes and 1 lb of carrots.  Just to make life complicated, there are two systems of measurement, metric and imperial.  The tables below give accurate and approximate conversions, which you use depends on your style of cooking.
