The Treasure Hoard
This page is intended as a collection of the various magical weapons and items, alongside other miscellaneous curiosities, which our party has been able to accumulate during our travels through the D&D game. The list is by no means yet complete, and will be regularly added to whenever myself or Alastair can find a free moment.

ARMOUR
Drewen's Armour +?
This magically crafted dwarven platemail lay for centuries awaiting one dwarven hero of heart and mind staunch enough to overcome the dastardly trap-filled dungeon at Makrast, an ancient dwarven outpost high in the mountains of the Karameikan/Thyatian border. Having penetrated the inner sanctum of the dungeon, one touch of Drewen's hand was sufficient for the armour to magically transport itself onto the dwarf's body! The armour bares heavy warding enchantments, yet weighs less than one third of any normal and similarly sized suit of armour. Accompanying the armour through myth and legend came also the suit's reputation, that "no goblin blade shall pierce this armour."
Vasily's Platemail +2
This silver suit of ceremonial clerical armour was initially fabricated to fit the former highpriestess of Pflarr of the Lost Valley of Hutaaka; however upon the priestess's demise and possession by an evil undead spirit, Vasily saw fit to reclaim the once-magnificent armour, and make sufficient alterations to fit the sheening plate to his own form.
Threy's Shield +2
This round and non-descript shield, taken from the camp of Iron Ring slavers, emits a faint aura of protection magic, sufficient to render the shield lighter and more maneouvrable than its non-magical counterparts.
Vasily's Door Shield
Tall as the cleric himself, this shield was specially commissioned by Vasily at a master blacksmith's in Specularum, inlaid with the Immortal symbols of Halav, Petra and Zirchev. Although not strictly magical, Vasily has recently been toying with the notion of applying a striking spell to the immense shield, thus granting the option of using the expansive steel surface as a formidable bludgeon when all else fails.
WEAPONS
Threy's Mace +1
Taken from the dying cleric Ceredict who turned to good with his dying breath to safeguard Threy, Drewen and Lana against magical shadow creatures. The party's first magical weapon!!
The Black Mace
Taken from the renegade cleric Elwyn in a fortress east of Threshold, this evil-looking mace will drain the very life force from whoever it touches when commanded to "Drink!" by its wielder. Traded by our auxiliary Karameikan party, who had no need for such a chaotic weapon - the black metal mace is now the property of Threy, and may go toward teaching Bargle a lesson or two.Lana's Dagger +2
This dagger was cheerfully appropriated from the hideout of the necromancer Maximus, underneath the bug-infested Old Mill on Fogor's Isle in Threshold; it was only after a week of use of the dagger that Lana realised that despite her infatuation for the new-found weapon, it was in fact a cursed dagger -2, rendering Lana almost entirely harmless in combat! A long quest ensued in the service of the Church of Karameikos, in return for Patriarch Sherlane releasing Lana from the evil sway of the dagger. Not only this, but the curse was in fact reversed, and the dagger was given a holy blessing, making it a powerful weapon for the cause of good! In place of the grinning skull which once occupied the hilt of this magical weapon there now is a blossoming rose motif, with a tiny amber gem gleaming at the centre.
Golthar's Dagger +2
This heavy and curved weapon bears enchantments rendering its metal unimaginably sharp, as testified by Lana from first-hand experience, after the dagger's previous (and yellow-robed) owner was so sharing as to plunge the blade deep into Lana's back high above the Lost Valley of Hutaaka!
Karnus' Dagger +1
Taken from the body of a river bandit north of Kelvin, an operative of the Black Ring slavers, this nondescript knife was found to exude a faint magical aura!
Drewen’s Hammer +?
In appreciation of the party’s efforts in bringing about the downfall of the crazed wizard Skarda, Duke Stefan Karameikos granted one wish to each of the party members. Drewen requested what he had long sought after in quests but never come across – a magical weapon of his own (as if the hardy dwarf was not formidable enough in combat!). True to his word, the Duke summoned Master Teldon himself of the Wizards’ Guild to specially commission the construction of a magical hammer for Drewen. The hammer bears a golden plaque with the inscription For My Life.
Drewen's Shortsword +1
Taken from the hoard of Falaryx, this shorter and more wieldable weapon exudes an aura of magic.
Crossbow Bolts +1
Liberated from the hoard of Falaryx the black dragon, these enchanted bolts could be used only by Drewen.
Ilsundel's Kiss
Property of the elfmaiden Lassandra and blessed by the elvish Immortal himself, this sword +1 will heal one person or animal of 2-7hp on command, once only per day.
Conor's Axe
A gift from his dwarven trainer in the arena of Port Lucinius, this double-handed weapon is the barbarian's most treasured possession.
RINGS
Rings of Protection +1, +2
The first (brass) awarded to Lana by the Patriarch of the Church of Karameikos (taken from a defeated goblin chieftain); the second (golden) taken from the hand of Golthar in the Lost Valley – these rings confer an aura of protection to the wearer, both to physical defences, and to reactions such as to avoid dragon breath or the effects of a magical spell. To Lana’s dismay she has uncovered that the two rings' effects are non-cumulative, and so the lesser ring has been put into storage for an indefinite period and may eventually be pawned to partly finance the construction of a Tower.
Ring of Telekinesis
This silver ring enables its wearer to manipulate small and inanimate objects (weighing less than 2000 coins, or 200 lbs) through the power of simple concentration! Tricks this ring may perform include disarming potential enemies or disrupting the control of a spellcaster. Note when the devil swine Yuri Kopernikov stole this ring he put its magic to use in altering the effects of dice rolls. The lycanthrope was obliged to wear gloves while using the ring, as the silver would otherwise have burned into his bare flesh.
Jade Ring of Controlling Hutaakan Statues
At least two of these rings are known to exist - one taken from the body of the mage Golthar at Xitaqa, the other from the mummified remains of the High Wokan of the Hutaakan Empire at Kizraka; these rings grant the wearer powers of control over any nearby 'living' jade statues! Drewen's ring admittedly is barely still of magical interest as the statues which his ring control had to be destroyed by the party when the corresponding constructs were set against our party by Golthar; several intact statues are known of underneath Threshold however, and may be controlled by Karnus' ring.Ring of Fire Resistance
Now property of Drewen, this ring once sat on the finger of an Iron Ring thief who first appeared to the party standing unscathed in the middle of a campfire! The ring confers complete protection from normal fire, and increased resiliance to magical fire such as red dragon breath... How very useful!Ring of Invisibility
This ring when placed on a finger will cause its owner to fade from view, similar to the effects of the magical spell. The invisibility lasts until the wearer makes an attack or casts a spell, but may take effect again one turn later.Ring of Weakness
This ring when worn deprives its victim of all physical force, leaving him or her with no more strength than a small child. It may not be removed by simple will, rather the application of a Remove Curse will be called for to break the ring's sway. Currently under Threy's possession.Ring of Fire Resistance
Owned by Drewen, this ring was taken from the body of a thief operative of the Iron Ring, who first appeared to the party standing in the midst of a blazing campfire! The ring confers immunity from normal fire, and reduced harm from magical fire such as fireballs or red dragon breath. How very useful!Ring of Spell Storing
Magically imprints knowledge of certain spells onto the bearer’s mind, even those who have no training in the magical arts! This ring found by the fighter Hermione contains the knowledge to cast two magic missiles, one web and one lightning bolt. Once cast the ring must be recharged by a magic-user to perform that function again.Ring of Animal Control
Owned by the thief Antonius; most recently used to pacify the beasts of the Coliseum in Thyatis City.Ring of Water Walking
As used by Lucius in the Grand Baths of Thyatis City – no plunging off a cliff or diving from the highest board – could be disastrous!
WANDS, RODS AND STAVES
Wand of Paralysation
The first wand ever to be acquired by our party. This item when commanded releases a cone-shaped effect of paralysation magic, comparable to the effects of a hold person spell, but which does not affect (as has been discovered in the past) undead or constructs such as bone golems! Appropriated from the lair of the necromancer Maximus when Lana was only a second level apprentice, this wand's charges have now all been spent.
Wand of Frost
Upon command this wand will unleash a searing blast of icy cold, similar to the effects of an Ice Storm spell. As wielded by Halia Antonic inside Skarda's Mirror, used to hold back a huge torrent of water that threatened to drown countless dozen slaves!
Wand of Secret Door Detection
Acquired by the party in Darokin City; having been rewarded the enchanted chainmail of the dwarf Gorrick Sourbeard, the companions were able to trade the unwanted armour for this wand, which was entrusted unto Karnus for his part in pursuit of the treacherous dwarf.Wand of Fear
This wand has been witnessed in use by the wizard Skarda, as when invoked the item's cone shaped aura of magic will cause all beings affected to draw back in terror from the wand's bearer, turning tail and fleeing at top speed. The effects are perhaps thus similar to the reversed clerical spell Cause Fear, but Lana has not yet found an occasion to employ the wand's power.Wand of Polymorphing
Uncovered by Karnus on our travels through the mountains northwest of Threshold, this wand was created by a long-dead wizard whose own quest for the Valley of Hutaaka met an untimely end when he fell victim to the ancient guardians, a pair of living hutaakan statues atop the bridgehouse. Our own party were capable of defeating these constructs however, and so Karnus acquired property of the wand. This was not such a simple acquisition as it might at first have seemed, however, as the wand turned out to be cursed! The wizard who created the wand had torn a branch from the magical tree of a dryad, whose dying spirit lingered on inside the wand, and who nightly tormented the blue-robed mage until he undertook a lengthy quest to restore the wand to its rightful origin.
Before Karnus came under the dryad's charm, he was able to invoke the power of the wand to transform Drewen's mule into a snail, and threatened to do likewise with the equally stubborn Threy. However in the heat of battle against Golthar, Karnus attempted to transform into a roc and was instead rendered catatonic by the reluctant wand. Later on, when escaping the lair of the dragon Korak the wand acted to preserve Karnus's life, transforming its bearer into the speedy wings of a tiny blue tit. It seems thus that this wand was a truly unique and even sentient item, gifted with an innate sense for self-preservation.
Wand of Fire
Taken by Karnus from an operative of the Iron Ring, this wand was found to contain only 2 charges. A similiar such wand has recently been taken by Lana from the Iron Ring mage Karlag, following the siege of Glaston.Wand of Lightning
Property of the late enchanter Flaccus of Luln, this wand was in the past put to superb use in diminishing the size of Bargle's orc horde!Wand of Enemy Detection
Taken by Lana from the hoard of the white dragon; when a charge is expelled the wand will cause all ill-intending creatures within close range to glow - works even against hidden and invisible opponents.Wand of Trap Detection
Taken from the Glantrian earth mage Maurenus Varezeno - locates all traps within range at a cost of one charge per trap found.Wand of Metal Detection
Points toward all sources of named metal ore at a cost of one charge per amount found. Given by Bargle to his apprentice to aid in discovering the secret mint beneath the shores of Lake Windrush.Rod of Cancellation
This powerful item, a seemingly plain stick of black wood, bears one charge only of powerful cancellation magic – any other enchanted item which comes into contact with the rod will become instantly and permanently non-magical. It is unknown whether the recipient item would have any chance of resisting the magic of the rod, since we have no way of experimenting with this dangerous but potentially useful device. Entrusted to Threy’s safe keeping. The Staff of Hutaaka
This truly unique magical item represents the legacy of the High Wokan of the Hutaakan Empire toward his final apprentice of the magical arts, a human protege. The staff lay unclaimed for over a thousand years, its powers confined within a mystical void, before selecting Karnus as its one true master in the year 1003 AC. Attuned to this mage's psyche, the once colourless eyes of the jackal-head effigy atop the cedarwood staff shine now with a magical sapphire light. The staff will have only one master, and thus upon Karnus' death the staff will vanish, ending its service in this space and perhaps time. The Staff of Hutaaka has exhibited varying powers in the past, its wielder may summon fireballs and lightning bolts, the Staff alerts its master to the presence of hutaakan remains through an unmissible sapphire light, and also the Staff once blasted through twenty feet of solid stone to uncover the lost catacombs of Kizraka outside modern-day Threshold. The Staff's other attributes have yet to be displayed, and are known only to the one true master.
Staff of Healing
This powerful item of good was discovered being put to a twisted and inequitable use in the hands of the Black Ring circle, who invoked its powers to keep their human slaves alive after repeated disciplinary beatings! Now in the more beneficial hands of Vasily, the staff has travelled to Specularum where its powers are put to use healing the poor and sick on a day to day basis within the workings of the Church of Karameikos. Vasily is permitted to keep the staff with him at all times, and so may heal his companions on their many quests across the Great Duchy! Through usage we have uncovered that the staff’s healing is only effective once per person per day, but may heal any number of people. The Staff of Lucinius
Fashioned by the first king of Thyatis, Lucinius Trezentanbium, upon whose death the Staff was hidden by the wizard's sister - the Empress Valentia the Justiciar. When entrusting this Staff to the Order of Tarastia, a thousand years ago, no-one alive knew of the workings of this item. Valentia bore only a shred of paper, bearing three words of magic. “Erris um certo…”The staff appears as a plain and unadorned wooden walking stick, such as any elderly grandfather might carry, or a traveller rip from the branch of a tree to serve as a walking support. Upon uttering a short incantation however, there will come a golden flare, as the Staff morphs to reveal its true form. It is a sturdy six-foot length of rough wood, with a gold-shod cap at each end. At its tip rests a golden disc, engraved with a single initial “L”, apt enough for both its owners!
Lana has recently (through help from Dmitrion, magist to Emperor Thincol of Thyatis) uncovered what she hopes is the majorities of the staff's functions, which are as follow: detect magic, dispel magic, detect enemy magic-user, feeblemind, anti-magic shell, spell reflect, spell absorb/store
Staff of Withering
This twisted piece of blackened wood once was the property of one Friedrich Schonberg, highpriest of the immortal Thanatos and co-conspirator to Maximus in the downfall of Threshold. Threy removed this item from the ownership of the evil cleric (who has now joined company with his immortal patron) and discovered the ageing effects of the staff – one strike causing a normal human to age 10 years! Against monsters such as griffons the effect is barely noticeable, but against goblins one strike proved enough to incapacitate, and against humans the same harm is achieved after three or four applications. Threy got rather carried away with the use of his new toy and so the already-depleted staff now has none of its charges left.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMSBag of Holding
Indispensable to the Threshold party, this nondescript sack appears to be able to hold no more than 600 coins, but in fact contains a spatial void, which will allow goods of immense weight or proportion to fit inside! When found this sack contained 10,000 copper pieces, which has now proved to be the bag’s limit. Theoretically possible to fit a human-sized creature inside but we haven’t been brave enough to try this yet.Bag of Devouring
Owned by Threy, this potentially disastrous item will cause any items placed inside to disappear forever if left unattended for a short period of time! Useful for waste disposal, but if ever one of our other items go missing…Stone of Earth Elemental Control
This smooth, fist-sized item was liberated from a demented alchemist in Specularum but not before the madman had a chance to put the stone's formidable powers into effect! After a ten minute period of concentration, and once only per day, the user may summon a twelve-foot-tall elemental from the Plain of Earth, who will remain under the summoner's bidding until sent home or until the summoner's concentration is broken. The summoner must concentrate to retain control and so may only walk at half normal pace, not attack or cast any spells. Should concentration be lost, the elemental will immediately turn angry and seek nothing less than the destruction of the summoning character! Spells such as Dispel Magic and Dispel Evil however have normal chances for success in banishing the creature back to its home plain.Rope of Climbing
This thin but very sturdy length of rope will fasten itself to any protruding surface upon spoken command by its owner! It may equally be used to entangle opponents and so on.
Amulet of Protection from Crystal Balls and ESP
This resplendent golden necklace protects against all forms of scrying and mental probing, through creation of an impenetrable shield around the wearer's being. Ironic really as the amulet's owner, Karnus, is himself equipped with spells of ESP and a crystal ball (see beneath) !!
Elven Cloak
One of the treasures of the Wardlystone Witch - this hooded garment causes its wearer to blend into his surroundings, becoming invisible to all but the most keen eye.Crystal Ball
The second treasure of the Wardlystone Witch - Lana's scrying device is similar to the one owned by Karnus (below) but lacks clairaudience. Bargle the Infamous now owns such an item, having plundered the Tower of Valtanivark of all its magical worth.Crystal Ball with Clairaudience
Liberated from the mage Skarda, this enchanted orb will allow Karnus to scry upon any familiar situation, person or object, no matter how distant! The ball’s built in clairaudience allows the user not only to watch but to listen to events as they transpire, as the user listens through the very ears of the person whom he is surveying!Scarab of Protection
This beetle-shaped amulet will protect its wearer from the effects of any magical curse. It will function several times before becoming ineffective.Cardia's Flying Carpet
This resplendent carpet has been enchanted with the power of flight and so is able to provide aerial transportation speedy enough to make the journey from northern Threshold to the capitol city Specularum within one day. Owned by the proud and businesslike elfmaiden Cardia, the carpet may carry up to three passengers, including the elf herself, for a predetermined price. Cardia carries numerous wands and other such magical devices upon her person to prevent or deter any possible assaults upon herself or her passengers! The carpet is also one of a kind, in so far as it has numerous magical pockets of holding sewn onto the sides. Thus Cardia was kind enough to transport half of Lana's white dragon hoard without that craft being even slightly slowed.
Girdle of Giant Strength
Owned and put to terrifying use by Lord Retameron of Verge, also greatly coveted by Lana. This simple belt when fastened around its owner’s waist endows the wearer with strength equivalent to that of a hill giant! Most effective when single-handedly fending off armies of gnoll invaders from the fields around Verge…!
