The current version of ThunderRoad Speedway is simply the latest in a series of race tracks dating back to the 1960s. The first TRS was a 1/32 scale track constructed of Strombecker track. It was about 45' in length, 2-lane and completely covered a 4x20 foot table in the basement. It did have some interesting features, however. The entire track, every turn, was banked as steeply as it was possible to bend the plastic track without breaking it. |

I have always had an aversion to plastic guard rails tight against the track, and so this inaugural TRS had shoulders cut from 1/4" plywood, and masonite guard rails. Unfortunately, there were very few photos taken of this track, and the only two I have been able to locate were during construction. If I ever find more, I will post them. |
