The Future of Robots and Cyborgs

Robot

Now that you have an adequate background and understanding of these similiar yet different types of machines the next question is, what does the future hold in store for them?

Robots:

At the rate we are proceeding, humans are becoming increasingly more dependent on robots. They are already used by us on an everyday basis. Answering machines, automated vacuum cleaners, robotic dogs and even mechanical butlers. It seems as the more technology advanced the human race becomes, the lazier we consequently turn. We already employ robots to perform menial tasks nobody really wants to do on their own, and as time progresses it only seems logical that we will further do less on our own and let the robots take over and perform everything we don't want to do. With this in mind robots are a definite part of our future. Whether or not you choose to use them to ease the strains of your personal life, you will most certainly have to interact with other peoples robots. So whether or not we like, it seems as if robots are here to stay, and their role in our lives will only become larger as the years go by.

Cyborgs:

Under the techincal defintion of a cyborg, a creature possessing both human and robotic parts while retaining a human-like mind, there are already cyborgs among us. Do you know someone with a pacemaker, plastic heart or other prosthetic organs/limbs? Yes that's right my grandmother as well as some of yours are technically cyborgs. Aside from this technicality, the future of cyborgs is not yet known. Medical science is making progress in leaps and bounds at the moment. There is no doubt that the ability to create a cyborg is available and will become undoubtedly more proficient in the years to come, the question remains is will we create a movie type cyborg? A half-man, half-machine soldier, or even a laborer, possibly an infallible doctor, the possibilities are endless and at the moment the future is unknown.

Proceeding With Caution

One reason the guaranteed future of these creatures is unknown is we do not fully understand them yet. Both were once figments of our imaginations, fictional character types that movies are based upon and which we solidified into functional members of our reality. Along with these ideas came a certain fear of them. The ever lingering idea that if we created something better than us, could it in fact be the end of us. This is the basis of the Terminator and Matrix trilogy storylines. Machines that humans created consequently turning on their creators. Is it possible? Not too long ago we were wondering the same thing about robots and cyborgs.
