About The Dogs

October 1999: These are our dogs, Lady & Steele.  Lady is a ten year old Collie-mix, and Steele is a three year old Alaskan      Malamute.  Both of our dogs we rescued.  We have had Lady for nine years.  Lady came to us when we found her in a park in Redmond, WA.  When we found her she was in really poor shape.  She was crawling with fleas and her fur was so matted we had to shave her down to her skin.  We also found out that she was miscarrying a litter of pups.  We did not think that t Lady would make it ... but after surgery to take care of the pups and a lot of TLC, Lady made a full recovery.  She went from a weight of 20 pounds when we found her to an ideal weight of 50 pounds within about 8 months, Lady was a fighter.  About a year after returning to full health, my wife was walking Lady outside our home When Lady was attacked by a unleashed German Shepherd.  The German Shepherd came darting across the street and ended up biting Lady in the left shoulder.  Lady then developed a massive infection that threatened to take her life.  The vet fixed Lady up as best as he could and sent her home with us.  The prognosis was not good, the vet sent her home expecting that she would die.  But Lady's a fighter and pulled through it. Now 8 years later she's doing fine.

Steele is a 3 year old Alaskan Malamute that we adopted through Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. He weighs 120lbs, and when standing on his hind legs can look you dead in the eye. Steele suffers an identity crisis though, as his favorite thing to do is pretend that he is a Chiwawa and climb into peoples' laps, at all available opportunities. We got Steele from the O'Conner family in Renton Wa in July of '97. Since then he has become a beloved member of our family. We work with Steele to teach him to pull sleds, which he absolutely loves to do. Steele's best weight pull on snow is 800lbs. His best weight pull on wheels is 1900lbs. For more information on weight pulling visit the International Weight Pull Association.  He also loves to run and play in the snow, along with pulling people on a toboggan, and playing with his friend Tieka. Tieka is a Huskey-Malamute-Wolf mix. Steele also enjoys camping, hiking, and stealing food right off of the barbecue.  Steele is an endless source of comic relief.  His antics are Quite unique ( or so we think ).  For instance, we think Steele has a mechanism in his body, that whenever he sits down he....well. releases an odiferous odor out his back end....eeewww!!  And no matter how hard we try it is nearly impossible to keep our kitchen floor clean, as Steele's paws have a knack for finding ,and tracking in mud ( even on a 90 degree day ).  Steele loves to sing, and boy he has a pretty voice!  Steele is very much the "Alpha male" in our pack who is subordinate to the "Alpha female" (lady).

Sadly Lady Passed away on March 30th 2002.  See her memorial here
