• Average model's prices in 1:16 scale are often high. While it isn't so easy to self-build a truck, there are some models not too complicate to scratchbuild. In this case, I was looking to a lowloader trailer for my Mercedes 3850 heavy tractor: a friend o mine wanted to display his new 1:16 scale Tank (Tamiya Tiger) on the local model show. Carrying the tank with a 1:16 truck model will be nice, but having just a few days to find it I couldn't order a Wedico low-loader trailer. A quick look on the BRUDER's site and I discovered this plastic 5 axles trailer. It will cost me 60 Dm. at the nearest toy shop.
• First step was to disassemble everything. Wheels are very hard to pull off the axles! Then I cut off the part of the floor where the real trailer has wood panels.
• This done, I made four wood panels for the floor choosing hard Olive wood (plenty of Olive threes here in Tuscany!). Aluminium L-profiles were used to build the reinforced chassis (the tank is quiet heavy!!) and to hold in place the wood panels.

• Low-loader trailers can carry many 1:16 models: escavators, dozers ore simply forklifts trucks like the Robbe Linde H50. Using the trailer without the 2 axles Dolly (Semi-trailer attached on the truck fithwheel ) allow more wheight on the truck tractive wheels. With the Wedico MB 3850 with fithwheel and rear hitch, for instance, one can do both things.

• Three rear axles are now made with aluminium tubes fixed to the central aluminium frame. I'm still using the Bruder stock wheels and tires, but I will buy Wedico Low-loader wheels in the future.
• After sanding and cleaning the plastic body, I sprayed first Plastic primer, then matt light grey acrylic paint (Using the trailer, scratchs will come quickly and it is better to see the grey under then the red plastic body colour) and finishing with Yellow RAL1201 semi-matt colour.

• Wood panels on the floor are olive-three wheathered and sanded. I simulate dirty and machine oil leakings with black acrylic color.
