MICHELE PHILLIPS (ANNE MATHESON/SUMNER) |
Born June 4 in Long Beach, California and raised in Southern California, Ms. Phillips burst onto the entertainment scene when she co-wrote with former husband John one of the biggest, most enduring pop songs of all time, "California Dreamin'." An astonishingly successful singing career followed with the Grammy Award-winning group they founded, "The Mamas & Papas." Ms. Phillips launched her acting career with the role of famed gangster John Dillinger's girlfriend, Billied Frechette, in the featured film "Dillinger." Roles in numerous feature films followed, including "The California Kid" (opposite Martin Sheen), "Bloodline" (with James Mason and Audrey Hepburn), "The Man With Bogart's Face," "The French Atlantic Affair," "American Anthem" and "Valentino," in which she starred as the eccentric wife of the legendary silent film star, playing opposite Rudolf Nureyev in the title role. Most recently, she appeared in "Let it Ride," opposite Richard Dreyfuss. Ms. Phillips' television roles have been equally as varied as her film roles. She starred as Stacey Keach's first leading lady in the original two-hour pilot for "Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer," and also played opposite William Shatner in the made-for-television movie "Secrets of a Married Man." Other made-for television movie appearances included "trenchcoat in Paradise," "Assault and Matrimony" and the mini-series "Aspen," with Perry King and Sam Elliot. Ms. Phillips resides in Los Angeles. |
