66TH SPECIAL OPERATIONS GROUP: THE KNIFE’S EDGE
With the formation of the Blake Protectorate in 3066, ComStar found itself facing an aggressively expanding Word of Blake. Already dealing with the fallout of the FedCom Civil War, the Com Guards were unprepared to contest their wayward brethren and so Precentor ROM dispatched several Blake’s Wrath teams to the Protectorate to wage a covert guerrilla war, contesting the Word’s control of these systems. One of these teams, led by Adept Delta/Epsilon XIV Gerald Blix, stumbled upon evidence of mass Word of Blake infiltration of ComStar, specifically naming a large number of double agents. To recover this information, Adept Blix led his team to the Prentiss Computers complex in Dori, on Epsilon Eridani.
Betrayed by members of his team and an embedded Blakist double agent, Blix fought his way free, killing most of the traitors before disappearing into the Chaos March. He reappeared on Outreach just long enough to recruit a number of disaffected and disavowed former ComStar troopers and technicians, plus a down-and-out mercenary aerospace squadron, before once again falling off the radar in October of 3067.
Originally believed to be generating revenue by hiring his unit out to other mercenary commands, Lieutenant Colonel Blix has proven to be far more resourceful than previously believed. While making occasional surgical strikes against the Word of Blake, he has expanded his unit from a company-sized force to a full battalion. Completing contracts with the Iron Tiger Brigade and Tyler’s Terrors, the 66th Special Operations Group again disappeared from view before executing a bold strike against the Titan shipyards.
Stealing a laden JumpShip undergoing preparation to transport an invasion force, the Sixty-Sixth managed to escape the system aboard a hijacked Vincent-class corvette after their own Inescapable Truth sustained crippling damage. They have since become one of the top targets on the Word’s most-wanted list. It is speculated that they are currently heading to the Chaos March, to contest the Word’s expanding hold on worlds surrounding Terra.
The Sixty-Sixth paints their machines flat black with green accents on the upper arms and torsos of ‘Mechs, or on the upper bodies of vehicles. The insignia of the 66th SOG is a stylized blue steel shield, trimmed in gold, with a lit torch centered on it. A ribbon reading “bella victoriam adipiscerint in volunte” lies across the handle of the torch.
Dragoons Rating: A*

OFFICERS
Known for being dogged and tenacious, Lieutenant Colonel Gerald Blix is wanted for questioning by ComStar regarding his involvement in the deaths of his team, even though recent events have led to the belief that a Blakist agent was responsible. This explains for many why Blix’ hatred of the Word of Blake is said to know no bounds.
Major Karen Stuart is a Highlander from Northwind who joined ComStar just in time for the Battle of Tukayyid. Noted for her red hair and fiery temper, Stuart served with the elite 2nd Division on Huntress during Operation SERPENT.
Considered a legend in his own time, Captain Alexander Bailey surprised many when he defected from ComStar to join the Sixty-Sixth, bringing his Anvil with him. Accounted an elite MechWarrior, “Old Bailey’s” true skills lay in his mastery of strategic and tactical planning and analysis.
Formerly a partisan from Epsilon Eridani, Laura Cartier and her son were rescued by the Sixty-Sixth during an operation to that world last year. Escaping Word of Blake ROM, she now serves the unit in an administrative capacity.

TACTICS
The 66th Special Operations Group specializes in guerrilla and covert operations, including information warfare. Principle among their many strategies is to tie themselves into a planet’s communications satellites and transmit pirate anti-Blakist radio broadcasts or conduct surgical strikes against key logistical, command and communication facilities.

SUPPORT
The Sixty-Sixth can provide full technical and administrative support, and a surplus of medical personnel. They also possess the Tramp-class JumpShip Saint Jude, named for the patron saint of lost causes, and an Assault Triumph-class DropShip, the Inescapable Truth, which can transport the entire force.

Warriors of a Lost Cause III-kappa
Battalion/Veteran/Fanatical
CO: Lieutenant Colonel Gerald Blix
XO: Major Karen Stuart
Organized along the lines of the Com Guards’ operational doctrine, the Warriors are made up of six Level IIs; three of BattleMechs, one of battle armor, one of Arrow IV artillery vehicles and one of aerospace. Lieutenant Colonel Blix usually deploys two mixed demi-companies at a time, allowing the Sixty-Sixth to custom tailor the unit they deploy based upon mission profile.
As with similar Com Guard formations, each of Colonel Blix’ battle armor squads are 6-man tactical units, which affords greater flexibility in battle. These units are composed of experienced special forces-trained operatives, which enable the Sixty-Sixth to broaden its range of operations.
  Guerrilla Radio
Company/Elite/Reliable
Intel Officer: Captain Charles Beckwith
Consisting of former ComStar covert operations specialists, intelligence analysts and technicians cross-trained in combat operations, the men and women of Guerrilla Radio style themselves as the “Voice of Resistance” against the Word of Blake. Including among their number skilled computer and communications technicians, the unit has proven itself by infiltrating numerous secure computer networks for broadcasts and intelligence gathering missions. It is the individual skills of this unit that prevents the Word of Blake from locating the Sixty-Sixth during operations.
