Wreck of Cause : Ensenada

Today no cruise liner
breaks the calm water

at this quiet Mexican port

only the empty ex-Catalina ship
dragged south from Los Angeles .

That abandoned great white steamer
who once carried chewing gum rabble
"twenty two miles across the sea"
now stumbles at the mouth of Ensenada harbor
sinking into her big brown belt of life savers .

The welder's torch shall reincarnate her
as heavy steel piles by the breakwater

they'll cut up the big old woman
to sell her skin and bones

for scrap metal trash .

No mountain of people or money
can save this enormous little lady

dying there in her last call port
drowning without hope, lost...

unless Saint Jude understands
this cause .
