MOTHER's Day in Mexico = 10 May.           ¡Felicidades!

I look back through my notebooks full of
scribbled pages and sometimes it seems only
yesterday I sat in the park, for example, and scribbled....

or went to breakfast one chilly morning and wrote

but has been four years and five months
since I moved downtown from the beaches and
five years and four months since first moved to TJ

I am so midlife aged crisis that I change very
very slowly while Tijuana leaps ahead of me
e v e r y      d  a  y          and
nothing could be stranger than this stranger from

BUT THEN I REMEMBER THE TROUBLE IN PARADISE...

Somebody murdered my friend's nephew last week.

This is not fiction.  My heart breaks for them.
He was so young, and now... gone.

I knew the kid.  Can't believe he's not going to
just pop into his uncle's kitchen again.  Ever.

I weep, and curse myself, when I remember
how quickly we must leave behind
