Majority And Minority,
Scape Goat To Enemy

We have come along way between the Social Contract and the Safety Net. As definitions change, words are rearranged, shifting our perspective. Standing us on our heads.

Liberals were progressive.
Conservatives were status quo.
Now
Conservatives are progressive.
Liberals are regressive.

Ideologic minorities now proclaim their authority as the new majority. While numeric minorities loose ground to their claims.

Religious, ideologic, and ethnocentric
minorities claim universal represation.
Verses
Socio-ethnic and economic minorities
claim representation of individuals.

In democracy are numerous opportunities for tyranny. When a minority proclaims itself to be the only [true, just, moral, superior] chosen majority. Within this declaration are all the rights of power and the seeds of domination.

First there is the selection of the "target". Then a move to "scape the goat". Followed by the vilification of the less fortunate. Perhaps you noticed these examples today:

Sixty years ago they were the political, religious, social, and ethnic minorities. With five million casulties in enlightened European society. Along with the imperfect: aged and disabled, diseased and disturbed.

Much the same today, only the politic, religion, and ethnic minority change. Now with countless millions more casulties.

Age and Disability offer no sanctuary when your are dependent upon "Governmental Entitlement Subsidy"; such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Another lesson learned in Europe 1938.

Our society has already "scaped the goat" and "vilified the less fortunate". Sacrificing the dependent children and families of single parents as "Cheats, Immorally Pregnant, And Lazy Welfare Queens". The distruction of "Welfare" is a drop in the fiscal bucket, and may cost more to do less.

What remains of the social contract are the Entitlements of Social Security, Disability, Subsidized Housing, Medicare and Medicaid. This is Not a drop in the fiscal budget; this is Real Debt!

THE DEATH OF ENTITLEMENT
The Reserection Of Welfare

In the Depression of the 1930's and "The New Deal" Social Security, unemployment insurance and public employment, were viewed as the entitlements of the social contract. Entitling individual members of society with basic benefits. Without the stigma of Welfare [Being On The Dole] or begging. With No means test to stigmatize; everyone qualified equally.

Look for Social Security and Disability Entitlements to transition into a means test for income and assets qualification. With a means test, watch for the "welfare" stigma to return.

Without the protection of Entitlement, watch as individual "welfare" benefits decline in favor of other Entitlements and Government Priorities. Along with the loss of Entitlement, goes the loss of constituence. Rather than having all the Senior Adults, only the low income Seniors and Disabled remain at the bottom.
