MORE OF EVERYTHING "E"1:
Etexts, Ebooks, Online

ANYTHING BUT NOW - EVERYTHING BUT NEW

With the exception of computer technical manuals, you Can Not Find It On The Internet. So long as it Is New, Current, Contemporary, and In Copyright.

The Internet has a wide variety of everything in Etexts and Ebooks ranging from the Obscure to the Occult and the religious to the ridiculous. However, most print text copyright, is restricted and defended against the public domain of the Internet.

THE VIRTUAL LIBRARY LOST IN A PAPER-SEA:

  • Against the mass accumulation of Print Text , even the Library Of Congress can only afford to transcribe a minuscule fraction of their paper print text to electronic media. While Card Catalogs are both up to date and online, Print Text Libraries are lost in a sea of deteriorating paper and antiquated microfilm technology.

Beyond past accumulation, there is an ever growing tidal wave of new Print Text and Books. The majority of currently accumulated paper print text collections, stacks and archives, will "turn to dust" long before they are reached by the Virtual Library Revolution.

  • Meanwhile fiscal frugality is changing both large and small Community Libraries. Providing greater physical access, while fiscally reducing hours, personnel, facilities, collections and acquisitions. Many community libraries are discarding their hardcover printed texts to be replaced by less costly paperback editions.

Rather than a technical and research reference resource, community libraries are becoming topical and periodical. Hardbound technical and research reference texts are flowing from these libraries into the secondary "used" book markets. Already some community libraries have opened their own Used Books Outlet Shops.

  • The Paper Text Library is "trending" toward both fiscal and physical distruction. Before the Virtual Library technology arrives. The end results will be:

    • 1. By the time a Print Text Book is out -of- copyright; the Printed Book is out -of- existance.

    • 2. More books -to- dust accumulation, than the Vatican Library Archives.

    • 3. A bigger fire-sale, than when the Great Library Of Alexanderia burned.

WHERE TO GO - What To Do ?

  • VIRTUAL LIBRARIES, ONLINE ARCHIVES and COLLECTIONS. Searching for Virtual Libraries and Collections can be frustrating. Many are only a collection of Link Pages without direct access to any Archives or Collections anywhere. Some are Commercial Link Pages to Online Print Publishers and Print Book Stores. There is a large number of "dead" links to small personal collection ftp sites. When searching: GO SITE -TO- SITE, and LINK -TO- LINK, to FIND THE ARCHIVE SOURCE BEHIND. The following Links -Go- Direct to two major online accessible Electronic Archives:

  • COMMUNITY, EDUCATIONAL and INSTITUTIONAL LIBRARIES, ELECTRONIC ARCHIVES and COLLECTIONS. Many institutional, educational, and community libraries maintain small electronic archives and collections. Educational institutions [School District, College and University] may maintain small "departmental" electronic archives and collections outside of [and in addition to] their Institutional Library.

While Electronic Card Catalogs may be accessed online, many cataloged Electronic Archives Are Not Online Accessible. Additionally, institutional and community libraries may limit access to their their own constituency or community.

Remember an online site showing a large selection, can be only a collection of Link Pages without Direct Access to any archives or collections. Just because it is cataloged does not mean it is available to online access. When searching: LOOK BEHIND and BEYOND THE LINKS, to VERIFY THE SOURCE. Expect Large Selection with already Limited Choice.

  • ETEXT AND ONLINE ELECTRONIC MAGAZINES.
While current topical Ebooks are hard to find Electronic Magazines "Zines" are everywhere and cover everything. One of the definitive e-zine resources is:

  • EZINES, ONLINE NEWS AND REVIEWS.
While current topical Ebooks are hard to find, Literary Reviews and Special Interest Newsletters are as prolific as Electronic "Zines". Some of the good examples are:

  • COMMERCIAL PUBLISHERS, BOOKSTORES, WRITERS and SELF -PUBLISHERS. The following are brief descriptions of the forms and formats likely to be found on internet web sites.

    • 1. Most commercial publishers and bookstores do not carry Etexts, Ebooks, or Literary CD Rom Collections.

    • 2. Some commercial bookstores do carry Audio Book Recordings of current Print Books.

    • 3. A few commercial publishers and bookstores maintain web sites which download the first chapters of featured Print Books as Etext Samples.

    • 4. There are personal and professional web sites of Writers and Self -Publishers where their Print Texts are featured as Etexts.

    • 5. There are a few personal and professional web sites for writers and self -publishers to display joint collections of their Etexts and Ebooks.

    • 6. Occasionally there are web sites where Etexts and Ebooks are Written Online as an individual or group workshop effort.

    • Writers and Readers Sources.
