Preseason
projected role: Injuries and inconsistency have turned Couch
from a potential franchise QB into a man fighting for his job.
He'll have to hold off a major push from Kelly Holcomb, who
outperformed Couch last season and may have the confidence of
both the players and coaches. |

Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Green
Bay Packers QB Tim Couch refused to criticize his former team,
the Cleveland Browns, over how they've treated him over the
past year and a half. "I've always tried to handle things in a
positive way since I've been in Cleveland, and I don't want to
change that now," he said. "I wish things could've turned out
differently, but I'm excited about playing for a Super Bowl
contender." Couch said he wished Cleveland would have released
him earlier so he could have participated in the busy
free-agent market.

Tim Couch signed a one-year contract with the Packers on
Tuesday. During a teleconference with the media, the veteran
quarterback said he hopes to remain with the team well beyond
next season. "I really do hope it turns out to be more than a
one-year thing because I think it's going to be a really good
fit," Couch said. "I feel very comfortable with the coaching
staff here and the offense that we'll be running. So I think
it's going to be a good fit, and hopefully it all works out."
Couch, 26, started eight games for the Browns last season and
threw seven touchdowns. His best season was in 2002 when he
threw 18 touchdown passes and 18 interceptions.

Couch, who was released by the Cleveland Browns late last
week, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Green Bay
Packers. Official financial terms were not released, but the
deal reportedly is worth about $1.25 million. The quarterback
is expected to serve as a backup to veteran Brett Favre next
season
