unk stuff

Punk is a type of music characterized by a very fast rhythm, a general upbeat sound, and very quick, short songs, usually not exceeding two or three minutes. You could consider Green Day a warped version of punk if you needed a popular parallel.

This paragraph concerns my favorite punk band, WORMBATH.

Check out WormBath's REAL page at
Forty-Two Records.
Besides their new CD ("Writing on the Wall") WrmBth also has a new shirt.
Wormbath is Mike Kershner on guitar and vocals, Mike McClain on bass and vocals, and Brendan Kinslow on percussion. Mister Kershner, Mike's dad (I don't know his first name) also plays trumpet in a song or two.

ka Stuff

Ska is a type of music generally associated with punk. It is upbeat and quick, with lots of trumpet and brass instrumentation. Ska songs tend to be longer and less metallic than punk songs, with larger bands to cover all of the available instruments.

Thank you, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, for representing ska on a highly popular level! The song Impression that I Get, presently all over the radio and MTV, is ska (actually, it's a ska offshoot called ska-core... heavier than normal ska). It's a good song by a good band. Thanks to them, when people ask me what ska is, now I can say, "Didja ever hear the Mighty Mighty Bosstones?"

Some ska terms...
First / Second / Third Waves (noun) - Periods of higher popularity in ska, each with a distinctive style
Ska-punk (noun) - A mix of ska and punk
Skunk (noun) - See above definition
Ska-core (noun) - Heavy, more metallic ska
Skank (verb) - A dance associated with ska and punk music, identified by the rhythmic punching and kicking of the arms (without intent to actually strike)
Rudie (noun) - Short for rude boy or rude girl, a term for somebody who really loves ska and generally wears plaid, white shirts, suspenders, and/or ska band patches.

Ska concert pointers:

  • Wear deodorant
  • Don't be afraid to be an idiot. That's what you're there for.
  • Find a skankin' circle as soon as possible.
  • If there isn't a skanking circle, MAKE ONE!
  • I can't stress this enough... LOTS OF DEODORANT!
  • Dress up if you want to. Everybody always wears nice shirts and suspenders.
