Oljaer
Oljaer is a medium/small sized fragment. It's about 250 miles
in diameter. It consists of only one nation ruled by a semi-democratic
government. It is known among the major trade fragments for its wine
which is popular with the upper classes.
The Fragment of Darkhaven, one of the
smallest know fragments, is in permanent orbit around Oljaer.
Oljaer is known as the land of the ivory money. Long ago,
King Durellen reputedly constructed a palace of Ivory. It was
destroyed in the Shattering. ''Pieces of the Palace'' are now the
local currency. (Two ivory pieces are equivalent to one Gold.)
Politics
The political structure of Oljaer consists of the Three
Tables: The Table of Lords, the Table of Comons, and the Table
of the Crown. Each of these Tables vote
on matters within Oljaer's legal system.
The Table of the Crown
This consists of the King and whomever he so chooses as his
advisor(s). His vote counts as two votes.
The Table of Lords
Twenty one members sit on the Table of Lords. Oljaer history
says before the shattereing 21 knights supported then prince Durellen
in over-thowing his evil father's rule. Each one was made a Lord
of the relm to share in ruling Oljaer and given a House named after
a gem. Lordship is passed to an heir, usually the oldest son.
These are the permanent Houses.
If their is no heir, the King appoints a new Lord of the House.
The remaining Lords must aprove the appointment. This new
appointment is only for 75 years. Lordship may be passed to an
heir so long as the 75 year limit is not passed. At the end of
75 years the King may remove the Lord and appoint a new one.
These are the Temporary Houses.
Since the Shattering, nine of the Lords have passed on without
leaving and heir. Nine Houses are now Temporary Houses.
The vote from this table (majority rules) counts as one vote.
The Table of the Commons
Twelve elected members sit on the Table of Commons. Once from
from each of the six districts, and one from each of the following:
the Merchants guild , the guild of Dranoneers and Dockmen,
bussiness's association, the mages guild (also called the
Fireball Alliance), the Temples, and the Illithid Embasy.
The Illithid Embasy was added in respect for a heroic Illithid
named Soul-Toucher during a recent war with the minions of the
fragment Darkhaven.
The vote from this table (again, majority rules) counts as one
vote.
As can be seen, it is easy for a vote to be deadlocked if the
Tables of Lords and Commons votes againsnt the King. A lot of
dealings, "favors", coercion and bribary take place behind the
sceens.

Lordship
A Lord or Lady of Oljaer receives a small stipend for the
upkeep of his/her estate for repairs, guards, food, etc. Lordship
entitles one to preferential treatment by most city establishments
(those that care about the nobility, such as the Fireball Alliance.
