Overview:

After the technical advances made using the Gray Death memory core, Mechs have become more and more expensive because of the new equipment. Using stockpiled older technology, a new line of inexpensive Mechs have immerged to accomodate the large demand for low cost BattleMechs. Using proven weapon systems, the Lightning was created as a low cost scout Mech for mercenaries that don't have the C-Bills to afford the cutting edge in BattleMech technology.

Capabilities:

The designers designed this Mech for speed and protection. A Vox 280 engine allows this Mech to keep up with Mechs much smaller than it. This incredible speed combined with maximum possible armor protection allows the Lightning to keep tabs on a fast moving enemy force for its lancemates. Aside from the astonding speed and armor protection for a medium BattleMech, four Medium Lasers and a Small Laser can be used for a bit of offensive punch.

Deployment:

The Lightning has seen action against the clans in many new mercenary units stationed along the clan borders. Being one of the cheaper Mechs in the market, it has been popular with many struggling mercenary units because of the low maintance cost. This Mech is usually in a lance with other mediums and heavies that provide long range fire support, while the Lightning spots for the rest of the lance and tries to harrass the enemy enough for the slower Mechs of the lance to arrive.

Variants:

As soon as the Lightning came out on the market, many refit kits have been developed as quick upgrades as a unit aquires enough C-Bills to upgrade some of its equipment. Aside from these upgrades being shipped as kits, units can buy the Mechs with these upgrades already in place for a bit more. One quick way to improve on the scouting ability of this Mech was to upgrading to Endo Steel splitting the extra bulk in the two side torsos, upgrading to Double Heat Sinks while dropping one of the Heat Sinks, replacing the Small Laser with a Medium Laser, and adding TAG and Beagle Active Probe. This upgraded version is labeled the LTN-1B. The next upgrade replaces the engine with an XL engine, upgrades all Medium Lasers to Pulse technology while adding another Medium Pulse in the rear of the center torso, and adds another Double Heat Sink. This variant is labled the LTN-1C and is used to provide accurate fire while scouting for its unit. Which model would you like to purchase?
