A listing of various and asundry bits of terminology from the world of video and computer games. Camping- Usually seen in First Person Shooters, where a character finds a protected spot and waits for other characters to come to them. CRPG- Acronym- Computerized Role Playing Game. FRPG- Acronym- Fantasy Role Playing Game. Sometimes distinguished from CRPG as being the manual, paper and pencil variety. Farming- Waiting for a monster to respawn and killing it over and over again to get an item from it. FPS- Acronym- First Person Shooter. Frags- Kills in First Person Shooters. Idle- Whenever players are inactive for a while they go and/or display as idle. LAN- Acronym- Local Area Network. Multi-player games raged across these long before the internet- and some still do to this day. NPC- Acronym- Non Player Character. Usually distinguished in role playing games as non-monsters that can be talked too. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't kill tham anyway. MMORPG- Acronym- Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Ping- An indication of your connection speed in most FPSs. The lower the better. Respawn- When players or monsters reappear after being killed, sometimes at set respawn points. See Repop. Repop- Literally repopulation. When players or monsters reappear after being killed, sometimes at set points. See Respawn. RPG- Acronym- Role Playing Game. Sniping- Variation of camping where a character finds a concealed location and shoots other players from a great distance. |
