Banshee's Curse - The Farewell |
|
It was many days later that he returned to the Banshee’s Wail for the first time since that night. Inside it looked as it had always looked, but it no longer sold ale or wine. Instead, Julius’ niece Anga sold flowers and trinkets there. She had not asked any questions of Snicker, but he was certain she knew already about the curse. While he was there, Snicker bought a single white rose from her and tucked it away in his pack. |

Snicker left the Wail for the last time and headed out to Bloodwood, back to the sarcophagus. He stood there for some time, thinking of the nameless woman, and her untimely end. He wondered whether any had mourned her passing, or even knew of her fate. Sighing softly to himself, he dropped the rose at the foot of the coffin and turned to leave. He stopped at the edge of the clearing, when he felt a sensation that he was being watched. He turned slowly, and wasn’t surprised to find the ghostly image of the woman, floating above the sarcophagus. She looked younger though, more a girl than a woman now. She smiled at Snicker, and he could see in that smile that she had indeed found peace. He smiled in return, before turning back once more and leaving. He glanced back only once, but she was no longer there. |
