MIF Constitution
We, the spell casters of the Magii of the Inner Flame, do hereby state
our official constitution, which will hold all members, active or not,
bound to the precepts contained within. By referring the matter from argument
to peace, from war to magic, a new era for politics is struck; a new method
of thinking hath arisen. Our guild comprehends its vast limits, great diversity of interests. Some of these are peculiar to certain members of the guild. But all these great interests are confided to the protection of one guild - to the fate of one ship; and a most gallant ship it is, with a noble
crew and the Archmage as its captain.
Purpose.
Nothing will exceed our activity and perseverance in all kinds of magical
displays, handicraft, and enterprise which promise to be the keystone to
Karchan's largest guild. The Magii of the Inner Flame shall not attempt
to interfere in any way, for better or worse, in the laws and debates of
the governing bodies of Karchan. It is the duty of the members of the Magii
of the Inner Flame to use the powers of magic bestowed upon us. Use spells
often, to entertain and remind us that the magic is alive in this land.
Be descriptive and imaginative in thy spells. It is not the responsibility
of the Magii of the Inner Flame to enforce the laws of the land, however
it is our moral obligation to follow them. We will not hinder the development
of guilds, that are not deemed detrimental to the land, nor conflict with
our own. Rather, we encourage a healthy development of Karchan, to include
guilds such as clerical, warrior, etc. It is the objective of the Magii
of the Inner Flame to remain a permanent fixture in the land of Karchan,
to grow and prosper, and establish a powerful voice from the spellcasters
of the land. Secondly, it is our responsibility to remain a noble and honorable guild, that is respected in the land. Worthy of note by the Keeper of the Key to the Room of Lost Souls, so that greater powers may one day be bestowed upon us.
Laws.
Many a law governs that which all members must obey. A few hath arisen
as worthy of particular scrutiny. Such laws have been scribed hereunto.
This article shall deal with laws of general nature which are to be followed
by all members at all times, bare no exception.
-
Our members shall not abuse any of their powers. This shall apply to all
powers and capabilities of each member, albeit some abilities may vary
from individual to individual.
- All members shall exhibit kindness and helpfulness towards others.
- No member shall be permitted to engage in combat or other non-peaceful
ways of communication towards another individual of the Magii of the Inner
Flame. This prohibits the hiring of others to do as such listed.
- All members will be required to entertain non members who wish to join
by engaging in a mock battle test for apprenticeship. See recruiting for
further details.
- All members shall follow the ranks described herein.
Should a law be broken, the seriousness of the nature of the offense shall
govern the punishment, which shall be decided upon by the Archmage. The
possible penalties include excommunication from the Magii of the Inner
Flame, a demotion, a lecture about the offense, or even possible banishment
to hell. A banishment to hell will be done in co-operation with a deputy
to Karn.
RanksMembers shall hold different ranks of power and position. The ranks are
as follows, in order of decreasing power. Also included are the maximum
number members which may hold that particular position. The names are those for magic-user specialties.
- Archmage, 1 member
- Firstmages, 2 members
- Eternals, 1 per specialty
- Masters/Curates, unlimited
- Warlocks/Deacons, unlimited
- Sorcerors/Abbots, unlimited
- Wizards/Clerics, unlimited
- Mages/Acolytes, unlimited
Descriptions of ranks.
- Archmage.
- The Archmage leads the guild. He is the one who has the final say over
everything the Magii of the Inner Flame does. He schedules the meetings
and decides on guild laws. Archmages are members who have reached the utmost
leadership ability and cast spells very well. Archmages shall, upon resigning
from their position, determine the method of selection of their replacement.
All reasonable methods shall be honored, and all decisions through said
methods shall be held as the final legislative act of the former Archmage.
-
Firstmages.
- The Firstmages are well trusted friends of the Archmage. The position can
only be attained by appointment to the position by the Archmage himself.
A Firstmage's job is to advise the Archmage on guild decisions and to watch
for members' behaviors (ie do they do so well they deserve a promotion
or do they break the laws often). The Firstmages also hold another rank
within the MIF. Any rank other than Mage, Eternal, and Archmage can hold
the Firstmage position.
- Eternals/Patriarchs
- Eternals/Patriarchs have reached the utmost of spell-casting ability. Only one member of the Magii of the Inner Flame of each specialty may hold this coveted position. The Eternals/Patriarchs are to be respected by all other members. Once an Eternal/Patriarch, a member can never be demoted from the position, nor expelled from the Magii of the Inner Flame save a joint decision to do so by ALL the other Eternals/Patriarchs, the Archmage, and 50% of all active members. The Eternals/Patriarchs' job is to be the watchful eye over the Archmage and his actions. The Eternals/Patriarchs, by a 2/3 majority vote can call for the election of a new Archmage if the current one has severely failed his job. This is only true in the case of three or more active Eternals/Patriarch. Once an Eternal/Patriarch, the member cannot be moved down to Master/Curate to make room for a new Eternal/Patriarch in his specialty, even if the wanted replacement is better at spell-casting than the Eternal. An Eternal/Patriarch can not be a Firstmage. Eternals/Patriarchs are the only such rank that are allowed multiple specialities, that is, they may choose to become a mage/acolyte of another specialty while still and Eternal/Patriarch. This second specialty may be either magic-user or priest in nature.
- Masters/Curates
- Masters/Curates are members who have reached a level of spell-casting that almost challenges that of the Eternals/Patriarchs, but is just a tad off. It is also possible that there are Masters/ who cannot become Eternals/Patriarchs because there is already an Eternal in their specialty.
- Warlocks/Deacons
- Warlocks/Deacons are Sorcerors/Abbots who have been granted a magical staff by the Archmage. Warlocks/Deacons have demonstrated a very good following of all laws of the guild as well as a excellent sense of magic and much magical Talent.
- Sorcerors/Abbots
- Sorcerors/Abbots are members who have demonstrated they can use magic properly and are able to teach magic to others.
- Wizards/Clerics
- Wizards/Clerics are mages/acolytes which have shown at least a bit of magical promise and have taken an interest in the Magii of the Inner Flame and magic. Wizards/Clerics are also proud of their membership in the guild.
- Mages/Acolytes
- Mages/Acolytes are freshly initiated members who have yet to show a little magical promise and take an interest in the Magii of the Inner Flame. All members start out as Mages/Acolytes.
Promotions.
Promotions are given solely at the discretion of the Archmage. The individual criteria for a promotion will vary from Archmage to Archmage, however, the following is sure to help with a promotion:
- Use spells often.
- Make suggestions to the ArchMage that may benifit the guild.
- Follow all the rules in this Constitution.
- It is important for a mage/acolyte to make themself noticed to the ArchMage. Greet the ArchMage and show respect to him or her (same with the FirstMages and Eternals)
- Be helpful to those in need / volunteer to help
- Do not break the rules of the deputies
Switching Specialties
Any such current member who feels his calling is for the opposite type of specialist (priest for magic-users or vice versa ) may request a transfer to the other specialty type. Such members shall begin again as a mage/acolyte and work their way back up the ranks.
Recruiting.
As all guilds, the Magii of the Inner Flame needs to recruit new members.
Our guild, however, has a strict procedure of receiving new members. The
first step to initiation is to become tested by a current member. This
test will consist of a mock battle using spells and may be conducted by
any member already familiar with the specifics of the test. Whether the person being tested passes is up to the tester. This decision, however, may be overturned by a Firstmage or the Archmage. The name of the tested is then submitted to either a Firstmage or an Archmage for approval, and when such
approval is given, the tested becomes a mage/acolyte in the Magii of the Inner Flame.
Before the mage/acolyte can be promoted to the rank of wizard/cleric they must undergo the second and final test. The member must be able to pass an oral examination of their knowledgebility of the rules of the Magii of the Inner Flame. Any such who passes may advance to the next rank, but those who fail the test must remain a mage until they can pass the test. The test may be preformed at any time in many numbers of ways, so mages should always be ready.
Amendments.
[ Any amendment to this document must be backed by the current Archmage
and at least 25% of the Eternals, provided there are at least 4 Eternals. ] All amendments legally affixed to this document will there after become
part of it for all eternity and may not be removed. The only way to counter-act an amendment is to approve another one which specifically states that it repeals the amendment which it is supposed to counter-act. That amendment is thereafter null and void, until the amendment counter-acting it is itself counter-acted.
Constitution.
Hereunto we shall scribe our names as true proof that this draft is backed
by a cross-section of the entire Magii of the Inner Flame, and is henceforth
to be the official document of the guild:

First Amendment
In as much as all Archmages are empowered to lead the guild, they should
be granted certain inalienable rights to modify several guild structures.
Keeping in this right, they shall be able to modify the wording of any
part of the main constitutional body dealing with recruiting, ranking,
rank names, number of members allowed at each rank, as well as types of
spell-casters allowed into the guild. This ability does not extend into
the text of any current or future amendments, and any such area protected
by amendments shall be rendered untouchable.
Second Amendment
In an effort to better improve the amending process, all amendments retroactive to this one shall require the two-third majority vote of the Archmage, Eternals, and Firstmages.
Third Ammendment
In order to ensure the continued excellence of leadership in the MIF, and to see to it that the Archmages and Firstmages of the future are able to concentrate fully on their task of leadership, all Archmages and Firstmages are henceforth required to have sole membership in the MIF and not any other such guild, religious order, organization, or any other organization banded together with a common purpose and common ideals. If any potiential candidate wishes to BE an archmage or firstmage, they must first withdraw their membership in said orders before gaining the rank they seek.
