GW and their pricing policies.

When I first started buying GW figures in 1992 I could buy 10 plastic sprues of figures for $19.95, (New Zealand Dollars). Each sprue had about 50 to 60 figures on it. Each box contained figures for one army only. I bought the bulk of my figures this way and can only be thankfull that at the time I had the cash to do so.
The beings at Games workshop then had a brainwave and thought that they would introduce a box of 15 sprues. The price was raised to $40 but the box was split to contain 3 different armies of 5 sprues each. To get the same 10 sprues as before you had to spend $80 and were left with 20 sprues of miniatures that you had to trade or sell to other wargamers. Inevitably some armies are more popular than others so you are left with the "unpopular" sprues cluttering up space.
GW then found that this wasn't a popular option and went back to the smaller packs but raised the price again to $25.
Now with the release of Epic 40,000 you can buy the equivalent of 1, (yes one!), sprue for $20. By my calculations that is an increase in price of about 900%!!!!!!! Just a tad more than the rate of inflation, (for the last 5 years New Zealand has had one of the lowest rates of inflation in the industrial world!).
