Aaron's Games Workshop Rampage
When an Army isn't an Army.
Games Workshop have in the past rushed figures into production and without
a pause for thought have introduced new rules and alterations to rules
so that the system prior to Epic 40,000 was shot full of holes, inconsistencies
and contradictions.
With the rush to release Epic 40,000 GW have done it again! One of
the more interesting armies, the Squats, (named thus because of their short
and burly stature), were not included as a part of the main rules system.
I own a reasonably large Squat army which has cost me several thousand
dollars to buy, paint and organise. I am now unable to use it because there
are no rules available for Squats! The same applies to the Knights figures
that were supplied with the last release known as Titan Legions.
To put it in a different perspective would you buy a car without tires.
Sure the engine runs fine but you can't go anywhere!!
There is no doubt that GW will release yet another boxed set "suppliment"
to the main rules at a later date but you have to wonder at the cost! When
I bought the Space Marine game it cost me NZ$120. The latest release of
Epic 40,000 is near NZ$180. Given that the suppliments used to cost NZ$70,
I have to show concern at what the suppliment for the Squats and Knights
will be. I guess that NZ$100 will not be too far from the mark.
Like most players in Auckland, I am concerned about national events
and championships. Do the Squat armies no longer exist? The simple solution
is that we are petitioning the national body, regional organisers and local
clubs to ignore Epic 40,000 and specifically exclude it from the National
and Regional tournaments. To stay with the old rules, (despite the flaws),
is preferable to eliminating a section of the wargaming community.
