The Gladiators

Occasionally in your travels, you may encounter renegade gladiators, straying far from their homeland of Athas. Powerful warriors and dangerous opponents, these renegades have decided to throw their support with the forces of the West, to oppose the rightful plans of our lord and master, the Dark Lord.

Brought up as slaves in the wastelands of Athas, gladiators are bred tough, fighting for survival in the city-state of Tyr. They are ruthless killers, who make no distinction between their opponents, killing both good and evil without remorse. While this attribute makes them an excellent addition to our Army, which contains a sizeable contingent of these warriors, a small number of gladiators dare to oppose us and side instead with the Rangers, Knights and Calians.

Gladiators can be fearsome opponents in battle, with deadly special attacks. Before entering a battle, gladiators can stir themselves into a berserk rage, which increases their strength, discipline and constitution to superhuman levels. They are able to sustain this rage for long periods, and can summon this rage often during combat. An opponent who uses berserk against you may however become too tired to flee if the combat fares badly, so you may be able to take your revenge!

Once in battle, gladiators can charge into their opponent, causing significant amounts of damage. For some reason, gladiators seem to be able to hit with this ability almost at will, and the amount of damage handed out by an experienced gladiator rivals that of a swarming calian.

The weapon of choice of a gladiator is the axe, and they are blessed by the wealth of powerful axes that may be found throughout the realms of Genesis. Be wary of certain axes if you are a goblin, for a powerful renegade gladiator wielding a goblin killer axe may spell your doom! Gladiators can also wield two weapons in battle, and their defensive skills rival those of the best of guilds.
