The Knights of Solamnia
A once honourable guild, the Knights of Solamnia have in recent times opened their ranks to fools and scoundrels, who know not the meaning of the 'oath' that they took upon entering the Knights, nor the 'measure' that they claim to abide by. Followers of the false god Paladine, these knights journey far beyond their realms, seeking to meddle in the affairs of the free people of Middle Earth.
Many a loyal soldier of Angmar has been attacked by knights, whilst peacefully patrolling our borders in the Shire, or continuing our siege of the fools in Minas Tirith. These knights believe they are on a holy jihad, to rid the lands of all that do not follow the ways of their false god. As such, they have no qualms in attacking, often in bands, and often with their allies, the cowardly Calians.
At long last, the knights have replaced their former leader, the cowardly Bayerd Brightblade. Bayerd, the ex-Grand Master of the Knights of Solamnia, can be pointed at as the cause of much of the ridicule and scorn heaped upon the knighthood, due to his actions while nominal leader of the knights. Challenged to a duel to the death, Bayerd fought a Kahedan monk, but when the battle turned against him he fled like a coward to save his skin.
The new leader, Kayen Makalis, cannot help but be an improvement for the knights, unless he has sucked too long at the teat of his former leader Bayerd. For the time being, judgement will be suspended, until Kayen proves himself - one way or the other.
Beware of the knight, for whilst weak in single combat, they can be dangerous in groups, and they delight in the killing of our weaker soldiers. In battle, they can perform special manoeuvres with their weapons or shields that can inflict significant damage, and while they claim to be honourable, they also make ready use of the ability to block a victim's retreat, allowing them to easily murder innocent people. When in danger, they are able to 'rescue' one another, stepping to the front of the melee and taking hits for their injured brethren. Their unwillingness to fight in single combat and their type of special abilities show just how much they value their 'honour' - they hide behind their words, whilst their actions reveal their true ways.
A knight who finds himself at the point of death in combat can choose to sacrifice himself, pouring all of his remaining strength into his attack to inflict devastating damage on his foes. Such a sacrifice will result in certain death for the knight. While knights who are true to their 'oath' and their 'measure' would be willing to make such a self-sacrifice, the pathetic members of the current order are more concerned with saving their own lives.
Knights also delight in mugging innocent victims, beating their opponent to the point of death and then stealing all of their equipment, leaving them to fend for themselves alone and hurt. Their hypocrisy is shown in the term they use for this ruthless and brutal mugging - they believe they are showing 'mercy' to their opponent. It is particularly interesting that one of their favourite targets for mugging is the Marshal of Cove Alexander, a stalwart keeper of law and order in those parts.
As well as their special abilities in combat, knights are well trained in battle, and have considerable expertise in a wide range of weapons. As such, it is not uncommon to be attacked by knights wielding powerful swords or polearms, or even our own weapons, the clubs and maces. While relatively weak in single combat, their use of teams and powerful weapons, their lack of honour, and their false belief in themselves and their god can make them dangerous foes for the unprepared, much like a pack of wild and rabid dogs.
Vingaard Keep, the home of the Knights of Solamnia, is often under siege from enemies. Whenever such a siege takes place, the cowardly knights are forced to call for support from calians and rangers, as they are unable to defend their home by themselves. According to the knights no one has ever conquered Vingaard Keep, despite the fact that on many occasions, all of the knights within the keep have been slain, and their corpses left as a grim reminder of the strength of the Army.
