Sad but true. In order to meet people you must go out to where the people are. You can only order so much from the home shopping network and pray the UPS person is the right gender as well as your type. Even though they do look good in those shorts. Or for the cyber shopper there is the internet shopping network. But no no no we need to be getting you outside. Take a walk. Get a dog or cat and take it for a walk. Go out to a bar and meet rowdy people. Go to a church or some other place of worship. Visit Graceland. Enjoy a night of bingo with the local senior citizens. Go out to a bookstore. My favorite is going to a mall. Here is where America spends it's money. A mall is one of the best places to observe what the rest of the population is doing. One great way to overcome shyness is to approach an attractive sales person in your favorite store in the mall. These people get paid to be nice. Just don't confuse their attentiveness for an interest in you as something other than a consumer. The important thing is to do something you really like doing. The more fun you are having the better your attitude is and the more likely you are to meet people.
