Items in red may cause death of your character or some
irreversible effect that can prevent you from finishing the game.
It is recommended that you save your game before trying these
things and restore afterwards.
General
- Right-click (Look at) the quill, quill stand, parchment, candle,
and the candle flame in the title screen of the game.
- Spot the U.S.S. Enterprise as it bumps into the magic carpet
in the introduction. This one is really hard to miss!
- Try
picking your nose with the lock pick. Both when your lock picking skill is low (save
first) and when it is high. This is actually a
great way to quickly improve your lockpicking skill.
-
Make the Thief Sign a couple of times when you don't have
thieving skills.
- Eat an unknown pill. Eat two poison cure pills in a row.
- Try to buy things from the various merchants and the shops
around Shapeir when you don't have enough cash, or you have the
wrong kind of money (Spielburgian currency). Some shopkeepers will
be generous nonetheless and give you things free of charge. Other
times you may get a stern or funny refusal.
- Give a bouquet of flowers to various women you encounter
in the game and watch their reactions. This includes Shema, the
enchantress Aziza, Dinarzad the money changer, Uhura at the guild
hall, and Zayishah. Ask them each for a date.
- Target rocks, daggers or spells upon yourself.
- From the Anthology README:
In Trial by Fire, Ad Avis was actually named in honor of Bill Davis.
Al Scurva was Bill Scurvin, and Khaveen was named after Rick Cavin (the
head of Production at the time). The evil city of Raseir was an anigram of
Sierra. Incidentally, if you wander the darkened empty Sierra Oakhurst
hallways at night, you can see the resemblence.
- The Marx Brothers make cameo appearances in the game. Alichica,
the annoying merchant outside the inn in the Gate Plaza is Chico Marx,
the saurus salesman Ali Fakir is Groucho Marx. Harpo Marx appears
randomly on the streets of Shapeir as a clown with strange musical
instruments when you have Silly Clowns turned on. Look for him in
the alleyways of Shapeir.
City of Shapeir
- Order meals in the morning and evening at the Katta's Tail
Inn and eat them. Try eating more than once at one sitting. Try
eating your own rations at the inn.
- Be generous. Give monetary donations to the katta musician, the
beggar (he appears at the fountain plaza on day 3), the astrologer,
and the flower seller. Doing this repeatedly is a good way to
earn honor.
- Look at the snake and the katta charmer in the Gate Plaza outside
the inn. Try getting the snake.
- Visit Alichica over and over to see what all he has to offer you
for sale. Ask him about weather, sultan, desert, caravan and duck.
- Did you notice the cameo appearances by Lori and Corey as Sloree
and Scoree at the food stand in the Fountain Plaza?
- Look at the eye and the door to Keapon Laffin's magic shop.
- Visit Keapon Laffin often and listen to his amusing conversation,
especially when an elemental arrives in the city. Ask him about things.
- "Look under the cloud" on which
Keapon is sitting.
- Check out Keapon's invisible wall (just keep walking straight once
inside the magic shop and you'll soon bump into it). Also try the
passages on the left and the right.
- Buy the X-ray glasses from Keapon Laffin at the Magic Shop.
Wearing them will feel like you're seeing everything from behind
a veil. Now use the glasses when you actually encounter Zayishah
changing clothes behind the veil in Raseir.
- Try fighting Keapon or stealing things from the magic shop. Buy
things that he doesn't sell at the shop. Buy a second pair of
glasses or magic rope.
- Talk to Keapon about fish for some really awful aquatic puns.
- The entire conversation with the Saurus seller is hysterically
funny, if you get his double meanings.
- Note your saurus' name - Roget the Saurus.
- After you have paid for a Saurus, type "Drop Saurus".
- Buy the X-ray glasses from Keapon Laffin before you go shopping
for a saurus, and then see what the seller has to say about them.
- Bargain with Ali Fakir for the saurus. Be obstinate and refuse
his questions by saying "no". Exit the
saurus lot and return a few times until he is desparate and threatens
that you will lose the game if you don't buy his saurus. Save you game and exit out of the lot now!
- If you're good at bargaining, you can hold out against the saurus
seller until he is willing to sell it to you for merely 5 dinars.
-
During the W.I.T. initiation, try selecting any of the mages
pictured (Erana, Zara, Aziza, Ad Avis, Merlin, Houdini and of course,
Erasmus) as your sponsor to W.I.T. Also notice the black picture
which represents Katrina (who was expelled from W.I.T.)
- In
Erasmus' pretest, look at all the bells.
- Look
at the space backdrop a couple of times in the WIT Initiation room.
Right click (look at) the wizard and the wizard+frame when one
appears before each challenge.
-
Try to climb the rock in the Earth test before casting any spells
upon it. Knock on the closed door in the Fire test.
-
Here are some fun ways of how not to win the Initiation trials -
run out of mana when levitating over the staff in the Air test,
melting the iceberg several times in the Water test, and standing
too close to the open door in the Fire test.
- Try to force your way into Aziza's house by
casting spells like Open or Force Bolt on the door or by picking its
lock. Do it again after you've been warned once.
- Be extra polite with Aziza the enchantress. Greet her when you enter,
share tea with her, thank her for her help, and bid her farewell when you
want to leave.
- Be rude and impolite to Aziza by refusing to
answer when she asks you for tea, casting spells in her home, or
entering her private chambers. You can also try asking her for a
date.
- Try catching the fish in Aziza's house. Or eating it.
- When you ask Aziza about Julanar, make sure that the Silly Clowns
option is turned 'on'. Occasionally, your Hero will comment about the situation..
"Just the facts 'mam".
- Read the book titles in the bookshelves of Aziza, Keapon Laffin,
and Harik Attar. Also look at the various curios they have collected.
- At the apothecary, ask Harik about drugs. Tell him about the earth
elemental after you have defeated it using Harik's Powder of Burning.
- Show
the Thief Sign to Harik.
- Look at the various things in the Astrologer's house, including the
four-poster bed, ladder, the chart, dart board, model and the poster.
Ask Abu about these things. Try climbing the ladder.
- Ask the astrologer about the various stars and constellations, his
lens washer Hasan, and the weather.
- Decipher the poster at the astrologer's. It reads "Peek-a-boo,
I see you".
- At night, in the plazas, get caught picking locks
or practising magic after the guards have warned you once against doing
so.
- Show Dinarzad the money changer the thieves' sign. Ask her about
thieves' tool, oil, jackal, goats and djinn. Flirt with her by asking her out
on a date. Try kissing her or asking about a kiss.
- At her counter, Look at breasts. Then ask her about sex.
- Look at Dinarzad's guard Franc.
-
Break into the house off Rani Tarik at the appointed time. Identify
yourself to Dinarzad as a thief and she will tell you about the job. If
you lack thief skills, use magic to break-in and steal the valuables.
Don't do this if your are striving to become a paladin.
-
At the break-in house, get the silver tea service off the shelf, the
emerald bowl from the cupboard, and the money in the chest under the
carpet. If you "search the chest" thoroughly,
you will also find a concealed silver dagger. Fence the goods at the money
changer's.
-
Do everything wrong at the break-in and check out
the various ways to die. Enter before the given time, walk noisily, answer
the old man's questions, hide anywhere outside the cupboard, talk to the
drunk son when he returns, leave the carpet rolled up when you hide for
the son's entrance, cast a force bolt at the cupboard, or enter the
bedroom.
- Look at the various weapons, shields and armor in Issur's weapon shop.
Also look at the fire.
- At the Weapon Shop, annoy Issur by talking to him while facing the door,
or getting too close to him. For laughs, ask too many
irrelevant questions or make the thief sign to him. He gets insulted and
literally throws you out.
-
Cast a flame dart or force bolt spell on the
bellows outside Issur's shop to destroy them.
-
Get caught
by one of the patrolling guards while trying to take Issur's bellows
at night. If you explain the situation to the guard ("Tell
about Air Elemental"), you should be able to talk your way through.
- When
breaking into the Weapon shop, stand on the trapdoor while opening it
after moving the anvil. You may get caught here
if you make too much noise or leave the door ajar.
-
Try to oil and move the anvil during daytime when Issur is around.
- Don't return Rakeesh's sword after borrowing it to defeat the Earth Elemental.
Visit Uhura after a couple of days.
- Try talking to baby Simba a couple of times. Go near him and kick him. Now
try it again.
-
Misbehave (cast spells or don't break out of chains)
and get thrown out or run away voluntarily at the EOF initiation. Knock on door
after you're thrown out.
-
Try to enter EOF with a lighted lamp. Type use lamp
when at the entrance.
-
Take the EOF initiation test when you are very low on
health and stamina.
- Take too long destroying the elementals that
plague the city.
- Listen at the various doors in the alleys of Shapeir and Raseir.
Shapeirian Desert
- Look at the various monsters you encounter in the desert, both when
they are chasing you and after you've killed them.
- At night, look at the stars in the desert and see which constellations
you can make out.
- Wear glasses in the desert (both when you have them and when you don't).
- Spot a mirage in the desert (Actually in the sky while roaming
the desert).
- Read the signposts that occur randomly in the desert. Encounter the
Persian Golfer or the dead king Arthur from Conquests of Camelot.
- Stay out in the desert without food or water for
too long.
- Visit the sleeping griffin ("Merv") on the mountain ledge in the desert cliffs
west of town. Talk to it and try asking it about things.
- Disturb the griffin by attacking it. Then fight it
around the desert.
- Throw a dagger or cast an offensive spell at
Julanar, the plant woman. Careful! Watch out for that broken monitor
screen glass!
- Try hugging the plant woman or telling her your stories a second time.
Also try talking to her when your communication skills are really low.
- You can actually walk to Raseir from Shapeir without the caravan. From
the city overlook outside Shapeir, keep on going south. When blocked by the
mountains, keep on going west. Eventually, you will be able to walk south
again. Go south until blocked, and continue west. Eventually, you will
reach Raseir.
- Solve the puzzle of the caged beast. Talk to the dervish at the Oasis around
day 12 and he will tell you where to look and what to do. This will also
help further the plot of the game.
- Try harming the caged beast by attacking it with spells
or daggers. Leave it hungry and thirsty in the cage and return after a few days.
- Look into the beast's eyes and open the cage.
City of Raseir
- Right-click (Look at) on all the scenery, vultures, brigands, saurii and
yourself during the caravan trip to Raseir. Enjoy the popcorn and soda
during the intermission.
- Buy and drink water, coffee and Djinn Sling at the Blue Parrot Inn.
Drink one too many Djinn Slings.
- Ask Wilmer the bartender at the Blue Parrot Inn about 'Ferrari'
making a point not to call him Signor Ferrari.
- Annoy or ignore Signor Ferrari at the Blue Parrot Inn.
When asked to steal the Black Falcon, refuse, come back empty handed or
refuse to give it to him.
- After stealing the blackbird from
Khaveen, return to Ferrari and type 'Give Ferrari the Bird'. It's really funny!
- Look at the window facing the fountain in Raseir.
- Drop your extra change of clothes and the visa
somewhere in Raseir. Then try to give visa or clothes to Zayishah when
she asks for your help.
- Look at Zayishah using the X-ray glasses you bought from Keapon,
while she is changing clothes behind the veil. Right-click (look at) on her
before, during and after she has changed clothes.
- Tell Zayishah about her uncle, Emir Arus.
- Try to kiss or make advances to Zayishah. Keep on trying several times.
- Stare at the Katta prisoner in the dungeon. Try
to harm him.
The Forbidden City
- Try the numerous ways of expiring prematurely
in the Forbidden City - walking around in the dark, falling into the
underground river, getting burned in the Fire chamber, falling from the
cliff in a weakened state of health or guessing the name of power incorrectly
one too many times.
- Check out the various ways to die in the
Treasure Chamber.
- Look at the Djinn of the ring. Ask him about elementals.
- Wish for random things like money and power several times.
- Cast an offensive
spell and a Fetch spell at him.
Raseirian Palace
- Fight the guards outside the palace. Send a well-aimed spell or
dagger at the Enunch patrolling the parapet above.
However, if you're not quick or stealthy enough, the guards will be
able to call for reinforcements and have you captured.
-
After climbing up the parapet and taking care
of the Eunuch, walk towards the right side of the parapet (away from
the Harem).
-
Wait in the Harem for too long.
-
When you lose your sword during the fight with
Khaveen, refuse to yield. Don't pick up the sword and do nothing.
-
Search Khaveen's dead body after you've killed him. Twice.
-
Enter the Iblis summoning chamber without the proper
protection spell cast upon yourself.
-
Throw dirt at Ad Avis to destroy him. Not sand, or rocks, but dirt.
You can obtain the pot of dirt from Keapon Laffin or the plant
stand in Shapeir.
- Fail to stop Ad Avis from completing the summoning ritual.
