Part 2

Part II-The Second Quest
Chapter VIII
The Transport

"A lot of good that did us," Paula said when they were out. "we may be out of their
prison, but we're still trapped. We could go from Onett to Fourside, but what if he's not there?
We're stuck."
"I'm willing to bet that if we figure out-for certain-where Ness is, and we contact Poo,
he'll come," Jeff suggested.
Paula nodded in agreement. Then she said, "All right, I think we should go to Onett and
work our way east, and this time, we're not skipping anything. I think for sure we missed
something the last time we went over this."
So the two started walking west and reached Onett by mid-afternoon. They started at
Giant Step again, then made their way to the meteorite landing, then to the city itself. Finding
nothing, they went south to Twoson, first searching the city, then moving on to Peaceful Rest
Valley, Happy-Happy Village and Lilliputian Steps. Then onto Threed; they searched the city
only, for they knew what lie waiting in the dungeon. At Dusty Dunes Desert they found nothing.
They arrived in Fourside at dusk via bus. They checked from Jacki's Cafè to the very top of the
Monotoli Building. Darkness fell as they realized they'd forgotten Saturn Valley.

Our heroes would not give up as they walked back to Threed(The bus has stopped
running for the day.). They went through the tunnel in the graveyard and made their way in the
darkness to Grapefruit Falls. They searched Belch's abandoned factory, and finding it as
abandoned as they'd left it, they continued on to Saturn Valley, where something amazing was
about to take place. Paula and Jeff had just walked to the center of the Valley when a huge
machine in the shape of a Mad Duck appeared, the toppled over on its side. Three Mr. Saturns
streamed out of the contraption, and the rest of the population cheered happily.
"What's going on," Paula wondered to herself.
"it works, boing!" cried one of the Saturns.
"Excuse me, but what is this thing?" Jeff asked.
"instant teleport, zoom! takes places, boing," answered the Mr. Saturn.
"problem, ding, keeps falling! must be shape, zoom!"
"Figures," Jeff thought.
"This is just what we need!" Paula exclaimed. "We could take this machine to the rest of
Eagleland and find Ness!"
"ness?" asked a Mr. Saturn. "hero, zoom, missing? saturns help, boing!"
"take machine, ding, find hero!" cried another.
Jeff and Paula nodded, knowing that their quest was almost over.

Chapter IX
The Search

Using the teleportation machine the citizens of Saturn Valley had given them, they made
their way to Summers, their next stop. After thoroughly searching through the city and Toto
port, the two made their way to Winters, Scaraba, Deep Darkness, and the Lost Underwold,
going through every maze and path in their way. However, they got the same results every time;
nothing.
"We're almost out of fuel," Jeff observed. "We only have enough for one more trip, and
it'll have to be to Dalaam.
"But Poo will never..." Paula said.
"It doesn't matter. We can search Dalaam without him. It's small, and really the only
place to look is Pink Cloud." Jeff told her.
Paula nodded and they used the machine to teleport to Dalaam.

Not even bothering to go inside the palace, Jeff and Paula walked through Dalaam, but
before venturing to enter Pink Cloud, they decided to ask Poo for help. However, when they
reached the palace again, the prince of Dalaam wasn't there.
"He must be out looking for Ness," Jeff suggested.
"No," Paula admonished. "I don't think that's it. Remember what your dad said, 'Anyone
is easily over-taken if not on guard. Remember that, for you could be next.' I think they got
Poo."
They turned to each other and said simultaneously, "Pink Cloud."
And that's exactly where they went.

Chapter X
The Finding

The two hurried as fast as they could to Pink Cloud. There were monsters by the dozens
there, which gave them a new hope. They fought there way through, and at about the middle of
the cave, Jeff said, "Well, this isn't too hard, right, Paula?" There was no answer.
"Paula?" A sudden realization came to him: he was all alone.
Jeff rushed through the rest of the maze, dodging as many of the monsters as he could,
because he knew he couldn't beat all of them by himself.
At the end of the maze, where Jeff expected his three imprisoned friends to be guarded
by Pokey, he found, instead, nothing but the familiar hole that led to Pink Cloud. Going through,
he found something quite unfamiliar. There was a hole in the center of the Cloud. Two voices
immediately broke their way into his memory-
Paula- Then I say, let's go!
Poo-Go where?
Paula-Down the hole, of course!
Jeff followed his friend's advice.

The place where Jeff landed looked, in all familiarity, like the place under Giant Step,
except for two things. One, he had not landed in a cell. And two, he could actually see. Jeff
walked cautiously through Pokey's fortress. He soon came upon four cells in a pattern so that all
faced the center. Three were filled. One was not. These prisons were what held his friends
captive. They were all unconscious.

Chapter XI
The Rescue

Jeff looked around desperately for a key to open the cell doors. But just then, the three
cells occupied by his captured friends stirred, and someone spoke.
"Jeff?" the voice asked weakly.
"Ness? Are you all right? What happened?" Jeff asked excitedly.
"No time...to explain..." the hero said. "Get the key."
Jeff found the key next to the cell obviously meant for him and started to walk back to
Ness's cell.
"No...open Paula's first. Then give her the key."
"But-" Jeff started.
"Just do it."
Jeff unlocked Paula's prison and handed her the key.
"Now," Ness instructed. "let Poo out and give it to him."
"Ness, you're not making any sense. Why-"
"I'll explain later. Just do it."
Paula did as she was told.
"Now, very slowly. Don't make any noises. LET ME OUT OF HERE!"
The missing hero had finally been freed.
"Now," said Ness. "now we have to find Pokey. As long as he's alive, we're gonna have
to stay here. But if we beat him, we're free. Let's go!"
"Yeah!" everyone else exclaimed.

Chapter XII
The Final Battle

The four heroes, via Ness's guidance, found their way to the end of the fortress. That's
where they found who they were looking for: Pokey.
"Well, well, well," he said. "You finally made it. And all in one piece, too. I'm
impre-no, I'm not impressed. I'm surprised that you made it this far. But now, now I will see
that you don't go any farther. My forces are planning another attack on Earth, and soon, soon
there will be no one to stop them!"
You took the coward's way out last time, calling for help! But this time, you won't be so
lucky!"

Jeff fired a Multi Bottle Rocket! 325 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Heavily Armed Pokey is able to move!
Heavily Armed Pokey fired a beam!
Poo dodged quickly!
Ness tried PSI Rockin' W! 935 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Paula tried PSI Defense Down a! Heavily Armed Pokey's defense dropped by 5!
Jeff used a Super Bomb! 273 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Ness tried PSI Hypnosis a! Heavily Armed Pokey fell asleep!
Poo used PSI Starstorm W! 820 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Heavily Armed Pokey is still asleep!
Poo used a Super Bomb! 241 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Jeff fired a Multi Bottle Rocket! 369 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Paula tried PSI Fire b! 364 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
Heavily Armed Pokey woke up!
Ness tried PSI Rockin' b! 323 damage to Heavily Armed Pokey!
"Ness!" Pokey called out. "Don't you get it? As long as I have some strength left, I'll keep
coming back to terrorize you and your so-called friends! Farewell, for now!" Pokey's figure
disappeared, and the four heroes found themselves back at Giant Step.

Chapter XIII
The Story

Ness was the first one to speak. "Is everyone all right?"
"You're the only one who took any damage," Paula reminded him. "so the question is,
are you okay?"
"I'm fine," he said, smiling. "But I think I owe you guys an explanation."
They nodded, so he began to explain what had happened, starting with his sensation that
something was amiss.
"From the moment I felt something was wrong, I wrote that note and waited for you," he
told Paula. "Although you didn't heed it as well as I thought you would."
"What do you mean? All it said was that you thought Pokey was up to something and
that I needed to remember what had happened if I wanted to help you," Paula said, confused.
"You mean you didn't read the back? Well, that explains it... Give me the note, and I'll
show you."
Paula handed over the note and Ness read out loud-
"P.S. Please remember the three most important things about our quest-wisdom, courage, and
friendship. Especially friendship. Don't ever forget that."
Paula started to protest that she hadn't forgotten any of those things when the early stages
of their search blasted their way into her memory.
"Oh," she said, then added, "But how did you know?"
"Pokey had some sort of camera set up all over Eagleland. He watched you almost the
entire time. From my cell, I had a perfectly clear view of what was going on."
Anyway, after Poo left you two, which I really can't blame him for, Pokey saw that as an
opportunity to capture another one of us. Needless to say he succeeded."
"So it was Pokey's henchmen who locked us in the dungeon under the Threed graveyard,"
Jeff concluded.
"Actually, Pokey didn't know who that was, but he took advantage of the situation and
sent a bunch of blue-faced guys over there to get you. He was really annoyed when you broke
out."
Pokey had had a base under every one of the Sanctuary locations, but right before you
reached them, he closed up the holes, except for Pink Cloud. He'd thought you'd given up when
you skipped it and went to order some of his cronies after you. That's why there were no guards
blocking the cave exit when you got there, but someone in the cave saw you and captured Paula.
I guess he didn't think he could handle the two of you at once. "
"Okay," Jeff said. "But that doesn't explain the key thing."
"Oh yeah, the key. Well, one of Pokey's cohorts came up with the idea of a key that
would only work on two different cells if a different person used it each time. It was a stupid
idea, but enough to annoy someone who was by themselves and didn't know what he was doing.
Does that clear everything up?"
"One more thing," Paula said. "did you give me that dream?"
"What dream?" Ness asked. "Paula, if I could give dreams, I would have been out of there
in a day, no more."
"Well," Poo said. "That's everything, I guess."
"Not for long," Ness said, shaking his head ruefully. "Pokey said he'd be back, and I
believe him. Next time, though, we should be ready for it. Which means never forgetting this
adventure or the first one. Never."
"Right!" everyone agreed.
And they never did.
